Equips "Morph" command

Description

Single slot. Morph is a Command Materia in Final Fantasy VII equipped to provide the ability Morph. This ability performs a physical attack against an enemy at 1/8th strength of a normal attack; if it kills the enemy, it provides an item. Morph is also provided by the Master Command Materia.

Obtained[]

Morph is found in the Temple of the Ancients. It is by the pool in the area where large boulders roll across the field. If not picked up when the player passes by this area, it will be permanently missed. If the player did not pick it up, the only way to get the Morph command is by defeating Emerald Weapon and trading the Earth Harp it yields with the Kalm traveler for a set of Master Materia, including Master Command; this would mean that the player also needs to defeat Emerald Weapon within the time limit, as the Underwater Materia is only obtained via morphing a Guide Book from the Ghost Ship. However, Morph is in an obvious spot in a location the player crosses as part of the story and thus unlikely to be missed.

As it can only be obtained once, the only way to have multiple Morph Materia is to master it. This requires a large 100,000, meaning that it is best to equip weapons and armor with Double or Triple AP.

The Morph Materia provides the Morph command. It does not come with stat changes.

The Morph ability turns defeated enemies into items. Morph performs a physical attack, ignoring row, at 1/8th the power of a normal attack (Yuffie's Conformer ultimate weapon being the exception), and if successful, will place an item in the player's inventory. This item remains even if the player runs from the battle and can be used even at the Battle Square.

Morphing is especially useful when turning enemies into stat boosting sources. This is required to max out stats, and will be the most common use of the ability.

As the ability is based on the success of a physical attack to kill an enemy, it is best given to characters with a high Strength stat to make them more likely to kill the enemy. This includes Cloud, Barret, Tifa, and Cid. However, Yuffie's Conformer ignores the 1/8th damage penalty, making her the best character to use the ability, especially when paired with Mega All.

Morph can be linked with several Support Materia. However, as Morph should rarely be used as a primary attack due to its damage penalty, few of them are useful.

Gravity-type attacks and L4 Suicide can be used to whittle down enemies' health without killing them, leaving them ripe for morphing.
