Moogles are a race in the Final Fantasy VII series. They are popular creatures of which many mascots and toys are created in their image. These are prominent throughout the Gold Saucer, and the most notable of these is the robotic moogle used by Cait Sith. Moogles reside in hidden mogstools throughout the planet.

In the original Final Fantasy VII, moogles are referred to as Mogs. Live moogles first appeared in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, in the Moogle Intel quests, as prior to this they were merely a fairy tale.

History[]

Before Final Fantasy VII[]

A famous fairy tale named "Mog the Moogle" told of a moogle named Mog, who owned a shop of wonders so as to bring happiness to the moogles of the forest.[1]

Cait Sith's large robotic moogle was manufactured to gather intelligence by the Shinra Electric Power Company's Urban Development Department.[2]

Original continuity[]

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children[]

MogFF7AC

The Moogle Girl, one of the many children with Geostigma, carried a moogle doll that has a pom-pom, unlike the "Mogs" featured in Final Fantasy VII.

Although Cait did does not ride the toy Mog in Advent Children, it appeared in a brief flashback scene in Advent Children Complete.

Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-[]

Various moogle plushy dolls appeared during the Kalm festival, and many of the children abducted by Deepground, or saved by Vincent Valentine while in Kalm, carried moogle dolls. Another moogle doll floatsed on top of the collected mako in Weiss's headquarters, indicating that at least one of these children from Kalm were among those sacrificed to fuel Omega's return.

Remake continuity[]

Avalanche moogle poster from FFVIIR INTERmission

Avalanche moogle poster.

During Final Fantasy VII Remake, in the Sector 5 slums of Midgar, a child going by the name of Moggie, inspired by the fairy tale of Mog, opened a moogle emporium to bring happiness to the slums. Moggie claimed to have moogle magic and dressed as a moogle, but was unable to demonstrate it.[1]

In "Episode INTERmission", Yuffie Kisaragi sported a moogle costume for most of the first chapter, "Wutai's Finest", and follows moogle posters left by Avalanche to guide her to their hideout in the Sector 7 Slums' clinic, which also has a moogle doll outside Sector 7 Clinic from FFVII Remake INTERmission.

Gameplay[]

Final Fantasy VII[]

Mogs appear in the backgrounds in Gold Saucer background, and in the minigame Mog House. A Mog is featured in the Choco/Mog summon, riding a chocobo. "Snow Mogs" Snowboard jump, moogle-shaped objects made of snow, block the course on the snowboarding minigame.

Real Mogs also appear in the Great Glacier in certain routes. They ice skate and some walk on ice boulders.

Cait Sith rides a giant toy Mog, and during his Limit Break, Mog Dance, a moogle dances in front of the party, healing their HP and MP. Unlike most moogles in the series, Mogs lack pom-poms, outside of the Snow Mogs, but retain their wings.

Final Fantasy VII Remake[]

Fingers crossed kupo from FFVII Remake

A moogle minion to the Fat Chocobo boss.

Moogles are now called "moogle" rather than "Mog" like in the original. They are small white creatures that look almost the same as the real world koala. A moogle rides a chocobo in the Chocobo & Moogle summon. Moogles assist Fat Chocobo in its boss fight.

A kids' bike in the Upper Sector 7 also has a moogle's pom pom as an accessory. Kids bike with a moogle pom pom from FFVII Remake A moogle appears as chalk graffiti near the Leaf House in the Sector 5 Slums. Leaf House wall graffiti from FFVII Remake

Moggie sells items in exchange for moogle medals, key items found in numerous treasure chests and as a reward for the Whack-a-Box minigame.

In Yuffie's Brumal Form, she disappears in a puff of smoke while leaving a moogle doll behind Brumal Form from FFVIIR INTERmission.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth[]

Moogle Intel from FFVII Rebirth

"Mog House", Moogle Intel location.

Moogle Intel is a subcategory of World Intel, where the player locates a mogstool (based on the Mog House minigame from the original Final Fantasy VII) on each region where the player must play a moglet-catching minigame before being able to use the moogles' shop that uses moogle medal as currency. In each new region, the minigame gets slightly more complex and the shop's wares are expanded. Moogle medals are obtained as treasures from destroyable boxes, both the normal ones but especially the ones with a moogle's face on them, such as when found on remnawave towers. Moogle medals may also be found in other treasures and dug up by chocobos.

Moogles are sentient magical creatures who punctuate their speech with utterances of "kupo".

Tifa has a moogle plushie in her bedroom Tifa's room from FFVII Rebirth in chapter 1, "Fall of a Hero". The Chocobo & Moogle also returns as a summoning materia, and Yuffie's moogle cloak returns from INTERmission; she dons it as a disguise and it is available as an alternate outfit for her later.

Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-[]

During Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-, moogle-figures can be found by Vincent and sold for additional gil.

Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-[]

Moogle-ccvii-summon

Moogle summon in the original Crisis Core.

A moogle appears as a summon on the Digital Mind Wave after obtaining the Moogle's Amulet, found in mission 8-4-4. Its ability, Moogle Power, casts Regen on Zack, and levels up his materia the same number of levels as the level of the summon (i.e. a Moogle Power Lv. 2 will raise each of his Materia two levels). The duration of Regen depends on the level as well, up to Level 5 where Regen will last the rest of the battle.

The original "feline" moogle model is replaced with the more "koala-like" model from the Final Fantasy VII remake project for Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion.
