The Monolith is an enemy in Final Fantasy X-2 found in the Road to the Farplane and Cloisters 61 to 64 of the Via Infinito. It is a black and blue-colored version of the Tomb.

Stats[edit | edit source]

Battle[edit | edit source]

The Monolith is the most dangerous of the Doomstones, as it is the strongest of the bunch and can use the Demi spell as well as the Doomstone trademark attack, Stone Breath. It can come in groups of two, or with other enemies as well.

Strategy[edit | edit source]

It is advised to hit its weaknesses with the Warrior's Holy and Water-elemental Swordplay skills as well as the Holy spell to bring it down.

Creature Creator[edit | edit source]

After the player has completed the Dolmen's fiend tale and entered the Farplane Abyss at least once, the Monolith can be captured. Like with the two Doomstones before it, the Monolith has already learned Attack, Stone Breath, and Ailment Def., and can further learn Total Limit Break by surviving a powerful attack.

Once the Monolith's fiend tale is complete, it spawns Ultima Weapon, who is then automatically recruited into the party.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

A monolith is a geological feature consisting of a single massive stone or rock, or a single large piece of rock placed as, or within, a monument or building. In architecture, the term has overlap with megalith, normally used for prehistory, and may be used in the contexts of rock-cut architecture that remains attached to solid rock, or for exceptionally large stones, such as obelisks, statues, monolithic columns, or large architraves. It may also be used of large glacial erratics moved by natural forces.

The word derives, via the Latin monolithus, from the Ancient Greek word μονόλιθος (monolithos), from μόνος ("one" or "single") and λίθος ("stone").
