Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age description

Monk is a License Board in the Zodiac versions of Final Fantasy XII. It is represented by the zodiac sign of Virgo.

Monk has access to 134 licenses, which require 8,276 LP to unlock, as well as up to 11 additional licenses through summon licenses costing 810 LP, and 2 additional licenses costing 130 LP through Quickening licenses.

Profile[]

Monks can either fight with their fists or with poles (which can hit flying enemies) and can equip light armor. They are strong physical attackers and have high HP, being the only job that can learn all HP and Battle Lores. They can learn many White Magicks, all of which can only be unlocked through Quickening and summon licenses.

Monks have few augments to supplement their magicks, and can only use Esunaga to combat negative status effects due to their inability to acquire any Remedy Lores. Monk learns Brawler, which improves damage when fighting unarmed.

Monk's poles attack vs magick defense, and so although they have access to Expose, they need another job to debuff with Shear.

In The Zodiac Age version, the player can unlock two license boards for each party member. Monk has the advantages of both high health and the maximum of Battle Lore damage boosts. Thus it has much to offer any melee job. Pairing it with mage jobs is by comparison less powerful. However, such combinations can be interesting, such as coupling Monk with Black Mage. Monk has three Swiftness licenses, high HP, and has access to White Magick, including Holy. The ultimate staff (Staff of the Magi) boosts Holy damage by 50%. However, Holy has a very long Charge Time and animation, making it subpar. Black Mage-Monk combination is also a powerful physical attacker, which is useful before the most powerful spells become available.

Monk-Bushi combination adds Monk's physical strength to Bushi's magick power and strength, allowing katana to deal more damage. Monk's White Magick also benefits from Bushi's magick powers. Bushi also unlocks Genji Gloves, which greatly benefits both jobs' weapon types. Monk-Time Battlemage can also be a good combination, giving the character more useful spells, ranged fighting capability, more Magick Power, ability to equip heavy armor, and all the abilities that lower enemy's stats. Pairing Monk with Foebreaker likewise nets heavy armor and the stat-lowering Technicks. Foebreaker, along with Bushi, can use Genji equipment with the gloves high combo rate.
