Mechanics[]
Damage is calculated as follows:
Damage does not take the thrower's stats into account, making battle items especially useful in low level challenge runs or in the Battle Square when the player's weapon is broken.
The damage is then modified by the target's resistance to Fire damage: e.g. double damage if they are weak to Fire, half damage if the target resists Fire, no damage if the target is immune to Fire, or healing if the target absorbs Fire damage. As the damage is physical, it would also be but by Barrier status, but few enemies in Final Fantasy VII use any protection statuses.
Use[]
Molotov can be useful for the player if they prefer to keep characters in the back row, as it enables them to deal damage while taking less physical damage. Molotov can be fairly strong for the point the player gets it unless they have obtained Beta from the Midgar Zolom. Once the player is able to obtain Right arms, the Molotov becomes less valuable, and once the player can obtain Beta and Aqualung, there is no longer any need for Molotov.
Etymology[]
Molotov cocktail is a generic name used for a variety of bottle-based improvised incendiary weapons.
