The Mindflayer, also known as Mind Flare, is an enemy in Final Fantasy V. Appearing in the final dungeon, it is frequently seen with the Crystelle. In the GBA and 2013 Matrix Software versions, it also appears in the Sealed Temple bonus dungeon.

Mindflayers will almost always counter any physical attack with the Blue Magic spell Mind Blast. Necromancers can learn Drain Touch by defeating it.

Etymology

[view · edit · purge]Mindflayers, or "Illithids," are a race found in Dungeons & Dragons. They appear humanoid, with heads that resemble octopuses, and frequently are found in the Underdark. They have fearsome psychic powers, subsist on a diet comprised of the brain tissue of sapient beings, and often enslave other races.
