When you want a Chocobo...

Description

Mimett Greens is an item in Final Fantasy VII that is used for catching wild Chocobos and can heal a target for 100 HP. They boost captive Chocobos' stats for racing and breeding when fed at the farm, and when used in battle, enable some wild Chocobos to use the E.Skill Chocobuckle. When given to a small Chocobo at Mideel, the player earns a rare orb of Materia.

Most greens in Final Fantasy VII have various names, appearing with a different name depending on context, but Mimett Greens have the most variations of them all. Mimett Greens are named thus in the player's inventory, but are called Memmet Greens when bought at the Battle Square, Samolen Greens when mentioned in dialogue in Mideel in the original PS script, and Memit Greens when fed to Chocobos at the farm in the PS and 1998 PC-versions of Final Fantasy VII.

Obtained[]

Buy Chocobo Farm (1500 gil), Gold Saucer (Battle Square; 1280/400 BP)

Mimett Greens are available at the Battle Square in Part 1; after Gold Saucer reopens when the party has the Highwind, the player can no longer buy Mimett Greens there.

Use[]

Mimett Greens is used to occupy a wild Chocobo for 1 turn in battle. Their other battle use is to enables the Chocobo to use Chocobuckle. If learning each enemy skill the earliest they are available, Chocobuckle is the third skill the player could get, learned from the Lv16 Chocobos in the Grasslands Area. However, earning the skill this early takes some time and money (Mimett Greens is the most expensive green at the farm) and it is not a skill that is useful in battle unless the player heavily invests in boosting its damage by repeatedly fleeing, which is not advisable in a casual playthrough. The Lv36 Chocobo in the Mideel Area is a much more common encounter, and the player will have more funds available at this later point in the game, and so it may be preferable to skip learning Chocobuckle the first instance doing so is possible.

Chocobuckle is learned through enemy Chocobos that appear on the tracks in the vicinity of the Chocobo Farm or Mideel. Encountering a Chocobo requires the Chocobo Lure. The player must find a Chocobo whose level is a multiple of 4, such as the level 16 Chocobo found on the footprints near the Chocobo Farm–and give it some Mimett or Sylkis Greens. The character with the Enemy Skill Materia equipped must cast L4 Suicide (learned from the Mus in the Grassland Area). After being hit by L4 Suicide, the Chocobo will cast Chocobuckle in retaliation and flee. If a party member activates their Cover Materia, neither the target nor the Cover-user will learn Chocobuckle despite the text displaying that the skill was learned.

FFVII White Chocobo Chick

Chocobo in Mideel.

In addition, giving the white Chocobo in Mideel a Mimett Greens and tickling behind the ear will give the player the Contain Materia. The white Chocobo follows the busy shopper found in all the village shops (except the accessory shop) before Mideel's earthquake, and afterward is found on the ledge on the very left side of village.

Feeding Mimett Greens to stabled Chocobos back at the farm raises their stats for racing and breeding. Mimett Greens are the only greens to boost Chocobos' acceleration, though there is only a ¼ chance of receiving this boost per green fed. They give the following stat boosts:

  • Dash +1–16
  • Run +0–3
  • Stam +3-10
  • Accel +0 (75% chance) or 1 (25% chance)
  • Co-Op +2

Sylkis Greens are generally better stat-boosting greens, though they are more expensive. Feeding a Chocobo greens can improve its stats, but only to the maximum of the Chocobo's potential. The only way to attain higher maximum Run and Dash is by breeding.
