Mid Previa is the grandson of Cid Previa in Final Fantasy V. Cid raised him after his father died three years prior to the events of the game. Mid idolizes his grandfather and wants to become a great inventor just like him. Mid also appears in the Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals anime.

Cid is a recurring name for an older inventor-type man in the series.
