Gloves reinforced with metal to pack an extra punch.

Description

The Metal Knuckles are a weapon for Tifa in Final Fantasy VII Remake. The weapon provides the Overpower ability, which leaps towards an enemy with an attack combo to pressure them.

The weapons' main asset is its raw Attack Power Attack Power, which is higher than Tifa's other weapons. Though this may make it seem to be her strongest weapon for physical damage, its main drawback is that its Speed Speed is outclassed by other weapons. Though its durability stats are fairly low, it provides the ability Bloodsucker, which causes Tifa to recover HP after defeating enemies.

Obtained[]

A pair of metal knuckles are obtained during "Secret Passageway", which takes place in Chapter 5, "Dogged Pursuit", after defeating Crab Warden.

Metal Knuckles artwork for FFVII Remake

Metal Knuckles provides Tifa with the highest raw attack power boost of any of her weapons. Though its magical stats are sorely lacking, and it provides minimal durability stats, it can be very useful when gearing Tifa towards pure physical damage in battle. In this respect, it is on par with the Feathered Gloves Feathered Gloves, which provide slightly less attack power but much higher speed, or the Purple Pain Purple Pain, which provides lower attributes but a high critical hit rate. When upgraded, it also provides Tifa with a 30% chance to start her battle with increased chi, meaning she will begin with Omnistrike without needing to use Unbridled Strength.

Metal Knuckles provides decent materia slot growth, but before Weapon Level 6, only one linked slot. This makes it suited to equipping many Complete Materia Complete Materia which bolster her skillset. These include Deadly Dodge Materia Deadly Dodge Materia, allowing her to more often get in physical damage, as well as materia that boost her ATB charges such as First Strike Materia First Strike Materia, ATB Stagger Materia ATB Stagger Materia, and Skill Master Materia Skill Master Materia, to help mitigate the lower speed compared to Feathered Gloves. With Metal Knuckles, the ultimate goal is to increase Tifa's physical damage output, meaning all materia slots are better geared towards this as her magic stats with the weapon are lackluster.

Metal Knuckles provides excellent physical damage for Tifa, though it is overall less versatile than the Feathered Gloves or Purple Pain, both of which are still primarily used for a physical damage role. Though Metal Knuckles plays to Tifa's strengths at dealing a great amount of physical damage, it provides relatively little else, and comes with more compromises than Feathered Gloves or Purple Pain while also lacking Feathered Gloves' speed or Purple Pain's durability, and providing a lower chance to start her battle with increased chi. Furthermore, Metal Knuckles is ineffective in combat encounters against enemies that are resistant to physical damage where Tifa is better off using magic spells or using the Elemental Materia Elemental Materia, as opposed to other weapons that boost Tifa's magic damage or have fewer compromises.
