The Mermaid is an enemy from Final Fantasy III, fought in the outer sea of the Floating Continent. As a Water-bound enemy, she is weak to Lightning-elemental attacks. They are of no threat to the party.

Etymology[]
A mermaid is a legendary aquatic creature with the upper body of a female human and the tail of a fish. Mermaids appear in the folklore of many cultures worldwide, including the Near East, Europe, Africa and Asia.
Trivia[]
- Mermaids appear nude (like their earlier counterparts) in concept artwork, but in the game itself their chests are covered up. This may be because a revealing, unobscured monster graphic compared to a less detailed map sprite was deemed too risqué.
