Template:Sideicon Template:LRFFXIII Enemy Meonekton is an enemy in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII that appears most commonly in the Temple of the Goddess, located in the Wildlands, but will appear in all outside locations between the hours of 04:00 and 06:00 while no other enemies spawn.
Battle
Meonekton can be dangerous to new players due to its high physical and magical resistance. A player who doesn't know how to Perfect Guard its Eerie Soundwave can get hit with its debuffing ailments, such as Slow and Imperil. Meonekton does not attack often, but will attack in rapid succession, which can stunlock Lightning if she isn't guarding. The attack is not powerful, but can become dangerous over time, especially while fighting more than one.
The real danger comes if Lightning is debuffed (especially with Imperil), where Meonekton will become aggressive; it will often use high-damage attacks Rush and Force Darts. While Rush is telegraphed, Force Darts comes quickly and will interrupt whatever Lightning is doing. Meonektons can throw Force Darts in rapid succession and at this state, the battle forces the player to be defensive, especially when there are more than one Meonekton. Aside from consuming a recovery item or using Esuna Guard from Miqo'te Dress garb, players can only wait the debuffs out, but once done Meonektons will revert to their default defensive approach.
The 65,535 spawn counter all but ensures Meonektons will continue to spawn throughout the game, but defeating the Last One within the Ultimate Lair will cause Meonektons to become extinct.
Strategy
The best strategy for new players is to avoid Meonektons entirely. After learning Deprotect and Deshell, these monsters become easier. They are weak to every element and susceptible to all status effects. Inflict Deprotect and Deshell, then stagger it as soon as possible to keep it from attempting to use debuffs.
Meonektons are a good source of Chaos infusion-boosted gil farming (especially along the Highways on Hard). They are also one of the few enemies that drop Adamant Malistones.

Etymology
A nekton is a subcategory of ocean-dwelling creatures capable of free movement independent of water currents, as opposed to plankton, which cannot. This includes vertebrates such as fish, molluscs such as squid, and crustaceans such as crabs or lobsters. Like all enemies of the Rift Beast class, the name is derived from a real class of living organism that also form part of an ancient clade of the evolutionary tree, referring to their origins in the Void Beyond.
