The following entails the various options within the main menu and submenus of Final Fantasy VII.
Item[edit | edit source]
The Item menu allows the player to view their current inventory as well as use consumables to heal themselves. The player can also view the party's current key items, as well as arrange their inventory by various methods, including manually.
Magic[edit | edit source]
The Magic menu initially shows a blank window, and at the start of the game will only show the Magic submenu. As the story progresses, and the player acquires more materia and spells, the Summon and Enemy Skill submenus will also appear. Here, the player can look at any spell a character may have at the particular time and see what its effects and MP cost are.
Materia[edit | edit source]
The Materia menu allows the player the option to view and change acquired materia on the party. The player may also exchange materia between inactive party members via the Exchange option, and equip inactive party members with materia. Arrange will rearrange materia in a neat, specific layout.
Equip[edit | edit source]
The Equip menu allows the player to change each character's equipped weapon, armor, and accessory, as well as view all of the acquired pieces of equipment and their changes to stats. The player may keep the accessory slot empty, but the weapon and armor slot cannot be empty. In addition, the player may view any special effects and materia slots that each piece of equipment offers (though hidden bonuses such as weapons giving Magic or armors giving special resists cannot be viewed).

Order[edit | edit source]
The Order option allows for the player to reorganize which slot each party member is in, as well as change their row from front to back.
Limit[edit | edit source]
The Limit menu allows the player to see all acquired Limits each character has obtained, as well as select a Limit Level for that character, from 1 to 4.
Config[edit | edit source]
The Config menu allows the player to customize their gameplay, and features the following options:
- Window color: Allows the player to customize the colors of the windows for text boxes, battles, and the menu. The RGB values of all four corners can be modified. The default colors are Blue 176 (TL), Blue 128 (TR), Blue 80 (BL), and Blue 32 (BR).
- Sound: Toggles between Mono and Stereo. The original PC version replaced this option with volume sliders for music and sound effects.
- Controller: Toggles between Normal and Customize. Customize allows the player to reassign the various buttons used to other buttons on the controller. This option is removed in the mobile and later versions.
- Cursor: Toggles between Initial and Memory. Initial will always reset the cursor to the top, while Memory will remember where the cursor is in the menus for each individual character.
- ATB: Toggles between Active, Recommended, and Wait. Active allows battles to flow without interruption, Recommended will stall ATBs during animations, and Wait will stall all ATB while menus are open and animations are playing.
- Battle speed: Toggles the speed at which the ATB meter fills up.
- Battle message: Toggles the speed at which text stays on-screen during battles.
- Field message: Toggles the speed at which text moves in text boxes on the field.
- Camera angle: Toggles between Auto and Fix. Auto will allows the camera to move dynamically, while Fix will set the camera to one position and never allow it to move except during summon animations.
- Magic order: Toggles between various methods of how spells appear in the menus.
PHS[edit | edit source]
The PHS menu allows the player to change which characters they are able to use in the active party. Only the leader cannot be changed at any time.
Save[edit | edit source]
The Save menu allows the player to save their current progress. The PSX version contains two different slots, supporting up to 15 save files each. The original PC version increased this to 10 slots, for a total of 150 files.
