Melnia is a major antagonist in War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. She debuts near the end of the first season, becoming the reigning queen of Fennes following Muraga's defeat. She is one of the central antagonists of the second and third seasons along her henchwoman Ranell.

History[]

Melnia was a shinobi of Saiga origins who over time developed ambitions of her own and left the village in search for power, eventually meeting with her loyal henchwoman Ranell who served as her main enforcer.

At some point Melnia reached Fennes and gained the affection of the barbarian king Muraga Fennes. Melnia, however, did not reciprocate his feelings and only remained close to him as a means to gain power.

During the war between Fennes and Leonis, Muraga became increasingly vicious as a result of his Magic Armor amplifying his hatred. Seeing Muraga become more emotionally unstable, Oldoa reluctantly had soldiers to summon Melnia to help with Muraga's brutal mood. Melnia nonetheless did little except observe the unfolding events. When Muraga became a mindless serpentine beast as a result of the armor, he clashed against the Leonis-Hourne alliance before being defeated by Mont Leonis who yet spared his life after Oldoa's pleas to let him die with honor.

As Muraga lay dying, Oldoa begged an approach Melnia to have consideration for Muraga and to be kind to him in his last moments. Melnia refused to show compassion to a monster, declared herself Queen of Fennes, and assured Oldoa she would retain her position before leaving. As Muraga's senses dulled as he was losing his life, Oldoa pretended to be Melnia, listening to his last wishes for Fennes while declaring her love for him, allowing Muraga to pass away in peace. Oldoa was left weeping at his loss and with burning hatred against Melnia for ditching Muraga.

Bored with the prospect of controlling only Fennes, Melnia took her forces and went to Wezette to ally herself with king Khury Wezette. When Leonis forces reached Fennes Castle, Oldoa appeared before them proposing an alliance to defeat Melnia. With the alliance forged it moved into Wezette as Melnia had already allied with Khury, who already knew of the Leonis-Hourne plans.

As the alliance regrouped and was joined by the forces of Glaciela Wezette, war ensued between the two factions. With the alliance gaining ground, Khury sought to dispatch the first division Equito to halt their advance. Neither Melnia nor Ranell found this effective and proposed using Schuzelt the Solidus warrior from Hourne, taken hostage to their advantage. Ranell proposed using him as a bargaining chip for Mont's ring, allowing Khury to seize on greater power.

Ranell helmed the negotiations, forcing Mont into Wezette castle to perform the trade while Ranell watched the rest of the forces from outside. Negotiations began with Equito managing the trade, which turned against expectations when Yuni spotted Mont's fake ring given to him by Glaciela. Yuni took the fake ring and had soldiers deliver it to Khury while giving Schuzelt in exchange, culminating the negotiations and with Wezette soldiers attacking them. As Khury received the ring, he realized it was a fake and murdered the soldiers in a fit of rage. Having lost the ring and the hostage, Khury ordered his men to prepare his secret weapon.

Viktora appeared in the throne room, mocking everyone present for their failure, questioning Melnia and Ranell's competence. Though Khury asked if she was jealous, Viktora rejected it. Irritated at her insults, Melnia sent Ranell to deal with her. A battle ensued with Ranell easily defeating the dragoon with her evasive maneuvers. Injured, Ranell was about to kill Viktora but Khury stopped her. Melnia questioned whether he was showing mercy, to which he said he believed Viktora to still be useful, and that he would rid of her when she no longer serves any purpose. Ranell was livid to kill Viktora for insulting Melnia against Khury's orders as she only obeyed Melnia. Irritated at being disobeyed, Khury assaulted her with a barrage of arrows, putting Ranell in a bind with his superior archery. Melnia had Ranell desist, while declaring the two of them would go deal with the current situation.

Melnia and Ranell took to the frontlines leading the offensive against the alliance alongside Wezette's ultimate weapon, an automaton known as the Ice Golem that put the alliance at a disadvantage. Engelbert was forced to use his own Magic Armor to gain power and single-handedly combated the mechanical monstrosity that repaired itself due to the magic supplied by Wezette's Magic Research Institute. The struggle grew increasingly disadvantageous to the Leonis-Hourne alliance as Melnia's forces cornered them further. Engelbert knocked the Ice Golem before jumping into action against the Fennes soldiers and punching Ranell away. Ranell was concerned by her mistress, who told her to not worry about her. As Engelbert was about to unleash his attack against Fennes soldiers, Melnia jumped and shot Engelbert's while upside down, destroying his Magic Armor with terrifying accuracy.

With Engelbert injured, the Leonis-Hourne alliance was forced to withdraw into the forest to regroup. The Ice Golem pursued them, but the forces of Glaciela, along the deserting Viktora and Luartha, destroyed the device regenerating the Ice Golem, allowing the mechanical monster to be defeated for good. Ranell was flabbergasted at what had ensued given the considerable loss incurred. Ranell apologizes dto Melnia for having cost the loss of the Ice Golem and begged Melnia to punish her. Melnia reassured her the loss was not important as they still held significant advantage and motivated her enforcer to redeem herself by obtaining the ring.

Personality[]

Melnia is a cruel, ambitious, greedy woman who seeks power at all costs, growing bored and detached from her village and their customs, being laser-focused in pursuing her desires. Melnia is self-centered and has little if any mercy, refusing to so much as spare any ounce of kindness towards the dying Muraga, simply because he transformed into a monster and was too hideous for her taste, despite Muraga being genuinely in love with her.

Despite being the effective Queen of Fennes, this doesn't satisfy her and she seeks even more power. Oldoa and Kilphe have described her akin to a child who moves from one toy to the next, implying that Melnia is absorbed with the idea of gaining power without a central reason behind it.

Melnia is ruthless in the pursuit of her ambitions and has proven herself a deadly and effective war commander, and a terrifyingly dangerous and fearless combatant herself. Jayden considered her a woman to be dealt with extreme caution. For all her malice, Melnia holds a softer spot for Ranell, to whom she generally shows praise and is more tolerant of her failures, generally valuing her competence and loyalty.
