Revives party from KO.
Description
Mega Phoenix is an item in Final Fantasy X that can be used with the Item command as well as used as one of Rikku's mixes and passively with Auto-Phoenix. Mega Phoenix will revive all knocked out party members, making it useful as a last resort in battle. As an item, its primary use is to customize the Auto-Phoenix auto-ability to a piece of armor, with only 20 needed to do so.
Obtained[]
99 Mega Phoenixes are obtained upon unlocking Pteryx at the Monster Arena. This provides more than enough Mega Phoenixes to customize Auto-Phoenix to two party members, a useful setup for some superboss battles later. In addition, a Mega Phoenix is found at the Djose Temple.
Mega Phoenixes can also be obtained in a variety of ways. They drop from Extractor, YAT-99, Mech Hunter, Mech Defender, and YAT-97, and can be stolen from Dark Ifrit. They can also be bribed from Alcyone and Ghost. From Alcyone, approximately two are bribed from them for 10,750 gil; from Ghost, approximately 38 are bribed from them for 249,975 gil. They can be won as a second place prize by playing a blitzball league.
Use[]
In battle[]
Mega Phoenixes are a great last resort in battle when two party members are knocked out. The party members are revived at full health, meaning they do not require further healing as is generally necessary with Phoenix Downs. Because Mega Phoenixes are not too rare, they are worthwhile to use in battle, particularly in a dire situation. They can even be used with Auto-Phoenix and can be boosted with Alchemy, like the Phoenix Down.
Customize[]
20 Mega Phoenixes add the Auto-Phoenix ability to armor, causing the character equipped with it to use a Phoenix Down immediately on a fallen party member without using up a turn, providing they themselves were not killed by the attack. If the player has no Phoenix Downs, the character will use a Mega Phoenix instead. In the later portions of the game, it is best for at least two out of three party members to have Auto-Phoenix equipped to prevent most Game Overs. Before everyone is maxed, Auto-Phoenix should be prioritized on characters with the highest HP or defensive stats, such as Auron; after maxing everyone's HP, it is enough to simply ensure that two have it at once.
Mix[]
As well as expending a Mega Phoenix item in battle, Mega Phoenix can be used as one of Rikku's Mixes. The easiest way to mix is to add use Phoenix Downs, making it a great alternative to expending actual Mega Phoenixes. If possible, Final Phoenix is a preferable Mix, however, as it also fully heals non-KOed characters.

Mixing Mega Phoenix with a simple item, such as Al Bhed Potion or Antidote, can be an efficient use if Final Phoenix is needed, as doing so can rescue the party from dire situations. It can also be used with Mega NulAll, a relatively useful ability providing protection to all elements, as well as Hot Spurs, which increases the rate all allies' Overdrive gauges fill up at 1.5x the normal rate. Beyond this, Mega Phoenix can be used with a few mixes as a second ingredient.

phoenix or phenix (Greek: φοῖνιξ phoinix; Latin: phoenix, phœnix, fenix) is a long-lived bird that is cyclically regenerated or reborn. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor. According to some sources, the phoenix dies in a show of flames and combustion, although there are other sources that claim that the legendary bird dies and simply decomposes before being born again. According to some texts, the phoenix could live over 1,400 years before rebirth.
