Medica is a Conjurer and White Mage spell from Final Fantasy XIV. It is the first Medica spell available to players.

Obtained[]

Medica is learned upon reaching Conjurer level 10 and can be used by both the Conjurer class and White Mage job. The spell cannot be used if the player is synced below 10.

Use[]

Medica restores the HP of the user and all nearby party members in range with a potency of 300. The ability has a casting radius of 15 yalms and has a cast time of 2.5 seconds and a recast time of 2.5 seconds. Once learning the Enhanced Healing Magic trait at White Mage 85, Medica's cure potency increases to 400.

Due to being an area-of-effect healing spell, Medica is useful in party content the moment it is learned. It should often be used during most boss encounters when all members take party-wide damage. Once the player learns Medica II Medica II at Conjurer level 50, players should attempt to weave multiple combinations of the two - e.g., when handling multi-hitting raid-wide damage attacks, players should attempt to perform Medica on the first hit and then follow with Medica II to have its base healing effect cover the successive attack, while also allowing the regen effects aid in healing any left over damage. When handling attacks where all party members take immense damage, players should avoid using Medica to heal the damage, but instead opt to use the Cure III Cure III spell instead.

Once the player learns Plenary Indulgence Plenary Indulgence at White Mage level 70, Medica can be used in conjunction with the ability to restore a large amount of HP to party members, allowing the ability to have much more healing potential.

Medica loses much value the moment the player learns the Afflatus Rapture Afflatus Rapture ability at White Mage level 76, due to both actions sharing the same healing potency, with latter costing no MP, having a wider range effect, and an instant cast time. In most end-game activities, Medica only sees usage in situations where Afflatus Rapture cannot be used due to lacking the required lily.

Behind the scenes[]

During Heavensward, Medica had an additional effect trait known as Enhanced Medica available at level 16, which would allow the player to have a 20% chance of the next Medica costing half MP. After the release of Stormblood, Enhanced Medica was removed.

In addition, Medica was be able to grant Confession stacks to party members in range once the player reached level 70 during Stormblood. This allowed the player White Mage to use Plenary Indulgence. This trait was dropped when the White Mage's Lily and Confession system were revamped at the start of the Shadowbringers expansion.

Etymology[]

Medica is a Latin noun for a "female doctor" or a "healer".
