FFXII wiki icon Template:FFXII Enemies The Matriarch Bomb is a Rare Game enemy in the game Final Fantasy XII. It is fought in the Stilshrine of Miriam. It is a weaker form of the Mom Bomb.

Bestiary Entry

Derivation: Mom Bomb

Said to be a prototype version of the mom bomb created to guard the treasures lying within the Stilshrine. This strain, as yet unrecorded in the Camp annals, is hunted in the Stilshrine of Miriam.

How to Find

Template:Cropped Image The Matriarch Bomb can be hard to find. It has a 20% spawn chance, and it is located in a secret section of the Cold Distance area in the Stilshrine of Miriam. In order to access this place, the player will need to find the secret passage in the Ward of the Sword-King area. The secret passage is located on the western wall close to where the Darkmare originally spawns. The wall will vanish if the player approaches it in a way that the camera will attempt to go "inside" the wall.

Despite its endemic nature, Matriarch Bomb is one of the few Rare Game enemies that can be easily spawned by zoning out a bunch of times, since it always appears in that same point, and zoning out only from the hidden area in Walk of Torn Illusion can somewhat increase its spawn chance.

It is highly recommended to have Float on before entering this area. If not, the party will immediately step on a trap and all of the characters will become poisoned, confused and berserked.

The Matriarch Bomb is not exactly a hard foe to fight. The party should just be equipped with Fire-resisting gears such as the Flame Shield or Adamant Vest/Hat to reduce its Fire-based attacks and Fira magick by half. Its attack occasionally inflicts Oil, which could be trouble for the party if the Oilings in the same area cast Fire.

The name "Matriarch" denotes a social organizational form in which the mother or oldest female heads the family and descent and relationship are determined through the female line. In other words, women would dominate, being the heiresses or having the most powerful social or political positions.
