Master Coeurl is an enemy in Final Fantasy X found at the Omega Ruins.

Stats

Battle

Master Coeurl casts Blizzaga and Thundaga, Drain, and Confuse when low on HP, and Blaster, an Instant Death attack that ignores Deathproof. Master Coeurl will provide 540 MP when Osmose is used on it, making it an excellent source of MP.

Master Coeurl drops weapons with Deathtouch, Strength +5%, Magic +5%, and Magic +10%, and armor with Death Ward/Deathproof, Curseproof, Defense +10%, and Magic Def +10%.

Strategy

To prevent it from casting magic, the player can use Silence, or Wakka's Silence Attack, Silence Buster, or his Triple Foul ability. This renders Master Coeurl helpless in its succeeding turns (save for Silence Buster, which only lasts for one turn unless the party can immediately dispose of it in a couple of attacks or uses aeons).

Etymology

The coeurl is a fictional alien race created by science-fiction writer A. E. van Vogt. Coeurls also appear in other fantastical environments, such as in Dungeons & Dragons (as "Displacer Beasts"). Coeurls are generally described to be feline with longer forelimbs and tentacles.
