The Manticore, also known as Manticor in the Nintendo Entertainment System version, is a somewhat rare enemy from the original Final Fantasy that appears in the Flying Fortress and in the Overworld vicinity of Onrac. They appear in groups of up to four, and pose a threat only if the party is insufficiently leveled. They are immune to Quake, as they are flying enemies. They resemble a lion body with bat wings, a human head, and a scorpion tail, being some kind of chimera. Manticores may attack with Poison Darts, which will poison the entire party. They do not have any weaknesses or resistances, so the player can unleash a barrage of physical attacks. It is advised not to use magic while battling a group of Manticores; magic will be mainly consumed during the battle against Tiamat.
