The Malboro is an enemy from Final Fantasy IX. It can be found in Pandemonium and in various other locations during endgame.

While less powerful than the Malboros of other games, it still gives quite an bit of Experience and AP. If eaten, Quina will learn the useful Bad Breath spell. Malboro can inflict Virus.

Strategy[edit | edit source]

Curing Virus with Vaccines should be a priority. Eiko can bypass the effects of Virus by equipping the Guardian Mog ability.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

"Malboro" may derive from the Japanese onomatopoeia boro, the sound of an upset stomach. The word mal, means something bad or illness. The name could also be a reference to Marlboro Cigarettes, since the creatures often spew horrid fumes.
