Item that has a nice fragrance.

Description

The Maiden Prayer is a mid game add-on in Final Fantasy IX that female characters can equip, but it is especially useful for Eiko, as wearing it changes Fenrir's summon attack. It teaches Auto-Regen, which allows the character to passively accumulate health mid battle. The Maiden Prayer gives a bonus to the wearer's Magic when they level up with it equipped and strengthens the wearer's Holy damage at the expense of making them weak to Shadow.

Obtain[]

The earliest the Maiden Prayer can be obtained is from using a Dead Pepper near the crack near Oeilvert while on Choco; the player will need to progress Chocobo Hot and Cold to the point Dead Peppers become available before heading into Desert Palace, and when on the Forgotten Continent, summon Choco from the local chocobo foot prints and ride him to the crack.

Another Maiden Prayer is also found in Ipsen's Castle, top of the "upside down chandelier" in the third area Ipsen'sCastleInvertedRoom, reached from a trap door from the floor above Ipsen'sCastleSmallRoom.

Mechanics[]

The Maiden Prayer gives +1 to Magic Defense and +3 to Magic Evasion. It gives a +1 bonus to the wearer's Magic when they level with it equipped. When enough "bonuses" upon level up from gear have been accrued, the character gains a permanent stat increase. Magic affects spells' outcomes and the character's MP growth.

Wearing the Maiden Prayer boosts the character's Holy damage by +50%, compatible with Eiko's Holy and Madeen, Dagger's normal attack with the Asura's Rod, and Freya's normal attack with the Holy Lance.

Wearing the Maiden Prayer makes the character sustain 150% damage from Shadow attacks.

Use[]

The Maiden Prayer has Auto-Regen, a "must have" ability to teach to everyone that the player would do well to keep equipped until the end of the game. Though Eiko likely has already mastered it, she will benefit from Maiden Prayer in other ways: it changes Fenrir's summon attack from the Earth-elemental Terrestrial Rage to the Wind-elemental Millennial Decay. The latter is also stronger. Moreover, it boosts her damage with Holy and Madeen.

Another good candidate for the perfume is Freya; she will also want to master Auto-Regen and the Elem-Atk would greatly help her damage with the Holy Lance.

However, the Maiden Prayer's Shadow weakness makes it a detriment in the battles against Ozma, Hades, or whenever Vivi uses Doomsday. The player should either not wear the perfume or also use something else that nullifies or absorbs Shadow damage to that character.

The Maiden Prayer's level up bonus is small but still useful though level grinding and min-maxing are unnecessary for a normal playthrough even when preparing for superboss encounters; the player can view any extra stats as simply a nice bonus.

Beatrix can also equip the Maiden Prayer, but the player cannot see this in a normal playthrough.
