The Magus Sisters is a trio of optional aeons summoned together in battle in Final Fantasy X: Sandy, Cindy and Mindy. Magus Sisters is the last aeon Yuna can get. They also appear as bosses in Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2. They allude to the trio of bosses from Final Fantasy IV.
Profile[]
The Magus Sisters resemble their incarnations from Final Fantasy IV, but wear insectoid armor. Sandy is tall and slim and wears red armor. She is modeled after a praying mantis. Cindy is chubby and wears blue and red armor, modeled after a ladybug. Mindy is the smallest of the group. She wears orange armor modeled after a wasp and hovers during battle.
When Tidus's party revisits Magus Sisters' Chamber of the Fayth the second time, the Magus Sisters' fayth will appear before them. In contrast to their aeon appearance, the fayth are roughly the same height and body type. Their fayth statue resembles how they look as aeons only with blonde hair.
Obtained[]
The Magus Sisters are found in Remiem Temple. The player must obtain the Flower Sceptre (prize for defeating Bahamut at the temple) and the Blossom Crown (Monster Arena prize for capturing every fiend at Mt. Gagazet), and use them to open the temple's back door where the sisters rest after Yojimbo and Anima have been recruited. Obtaining the Magus Sisters in the Final Fantasy X HD Remaster version earns the Delta Attack! trophy/achievement.
Battle[]
Unlike other aeons, the Magus Sisters consist of three separate entities. Their specific commands cannot be controlled; Yuna can only suggest actions for them to take by shouting commands such as "Fight!", "Help Each Other!", "Go, Go, Go!", but the resulting effect under each heading is random, and the sisters may randomly choose "taking a break...", which wastes a turn. This is compensated for by the Magus Sisters being extremely powerful and able to break the 9,999 damage limit from the start. Because the sisters are not directly controllable, they cannot use Shield or Boost.
Cindy excels at White Magic, Mindy at Black Magic and defense, and Sandy at physical attacks and support White Magic. When the Magus Sisters are summoned, Cindy moves first. Their fighting strategy is similar to that of their Final Fantasy IV incarnation, in that Sandy always casts Reflect on Cindy when the "Do as you will!" command is selected for the first time. Mindy will then cast various Black Magic spells on Cindy, which will rebound onto the enemy party whenever the player selects the "Do as you will!" command on Mindy's turn. Cindy assists with the party's healing and well-being as she did in Final Fantasy IV.
Cindy's special attack, Camisade, deals physical damage to an enemy, and Sandy's special attack, Razzia, functions similarly. Mindy's special attack, Passado, deals 15 hits of physical damage to a single target, making it one of the most potentially powerful attacks in the game.
To launch their Overdrive, Delta Attack, each sister's bar must be full and the command "Combine powers!" must be selected. Delta Attack is Strength-based, but its damage is neither physical nor magical (and thus cannot be mitigated with Shell/Protect). It can be triggered by any sister, but Cindy's Strength determines its base damage. Delta Attack deals high damage to all foes, either in one lump sum with 375% of the power of Attack in the NTSC and Japanese versions, or six successive hits with 62.5% of the power in the International and HD Remaster versions. The maximum damage possible per target is 599,994.
Unlike characters' Overdrive meters, which charge in increments of 1/100 (or 1%), the Magus Sisters' meters charge in increments of 1/20 (or 5%). The meters charge when they are attacked (except when afflicted with Curse), when they perform an action, and when they are healed by Drain, Osmose, Lancet, and Auto-Life. There are three meter bonuses associated with the Dismiss command; one to the Sister who receives the command to Dismiss; one to Cindy after being dismissed; and one for Cindy when the Sisters are summoned again. Cindy's gauge can also increase after using Delta Attack.
When a sister is attacked, the formula most often used to determine her Overdrive meter charge is this:
- Charge = max(1, [Damage / MaxHP * 20])[1]
This applies even if the sister evades (in which case "Damage" is what the attack would have caused had it hit). Some attacks may have additional restrictions. For example, the maximum charge a sister can get from Fenrir's Fangs of Chaos is 2 (even though the base damage is 93.75% of the target's current HP).[1]
If a sister's attack is evaded/nullified/absorbed, the Overdrive meter charge decreases by 1. If the attack occurs immediately after the command "One more time" her Overdrive meter does not charge. When Mindy uses Doublecast, the first spell charges her Overdrive meter less than the second spell.
Each sister has her own victory pose. Cindy dusts off her hands, jumps once and puts her hands on her hips. Mindy spins in the air once, then lands. Sandy raises her right hand in a shrugging motion then looks away. When the sisters are at critical HP, they will slouch over and close their eyes.
Yuna's commands[]
Motivation is the 0–100 numerical measure of the relationship between Yuna and each of the sisters. At the start of battle, each sister's Motivation is 50. Motivation increases whenever a sister performs an action, and decreases with "Taking a break..." Motivation affects which action the sisters choose to take, but because the sisters are more inclined to act than "take a break", generally it means they will use their better attacks more the longer they stay in the battlefield. "Taking a break..." happens if none of the other attacks available for the chosen command trigger. The actions often considered the best yield more Motivation as well, such as Auto-Life, Ultima and Delta Attack.
- Do as you will
This command has the sisters do as they please and always appears as an option. Cindy may use Auto-Life, Full-Life, Life, Attack, Flare, or any third tier elemental spells. She may also "take a break" and waste her turn.
Sandy casts Reflect on Cindy to set up Mindy's spells. When Cindy has Reflect, she will either use Razzia or Attack. It is best to not use this command on Sandy if the player wants the best chance to get Mindy's Passado, as Mindy will likely use Black Magic instead if Cindy has Reflect.
Mindy may cast or doublecast Black Magic spells off Cindy if the latter has Reflect (all of Mindy's magic from "Do as you will" will target Cindy). She uses second and third tier elemental spells, Drain, Flare, Bio and Death. She may also use Passado or Attack, or "take a break" and waste a turn.
- One more time
This command always appears except on the sister's first turn. It asks the sisters to repeat their previous action, but they will not always comply; they may also use either their special attack (Razzia etc.) or a regular Attack. Mindy may also take a break. Cindy follows this command the best, but each sister has a better than 1/2 chance of repeating what she did last. Delta Attack and "Taking a break..." do not count, and they won't try to repeat a command they don't have enough MP for.
- Fight!
This command asks the sisters to physically attack. Each sister will either do her special attack, a normal Attack, or "take a break..." The command appears more often the more Motivation the sister has.
- Go, go!
This command has a 1/2 chance of appearing on Cindy's turn. It asks Cindy to use offensive magic and skills, although the first action Cindy may do from this command is Pray (the chance depends on the percentage of her maximum HP she has lost). Failing that, she may use Osmose, Attack, Ultima, Flare, Drain, third tier Black Magic elemental spells, Camisade, or "take a break..."
- Help each other!
This command asks Cindy to heal her sisters. Its appearance rate is 25/32 on Cindy's turn. This command is the only way to access Cindy's curative spells (besides "One more time."). Cindy may cast Full-Life or Life (if a sister is KO'd), Auto-Life, Cure, Cura, or Curaga (she never heals herself, however). She may also use Camisade or "take a break..." and waste a turn.
- Defense!
This command asks Sandy to use defensive and support magic. It always appears on Sandy's turn if Cindy or Mindy has less than half of her maximum HP remaining, and the rest of the time has 1/2 chance of appearing.
Sandy may use Shell, Protect, Haste, NulAll, Cure, Cura, Curaga (she never heals herself), Razzia, Attack, or "take a break..." and waste a turn.
Sandy won't cast Reflect from this command; she only uses it from "Do as you will". She will not try to heal or buff comrades if it would be ineffective, such as if they have Reflect.
- Are you alright?
The chance of this command appearing on Mindy's turn when she has less than 25% of her maximum HP or MP remaining is 25/32. If Mindy has less than 50% of her maximum HP or MP, the chance for it to appear is 1/2.
This command asks Mindy to absorb HP and MP from the enemy. Mindy will use Lancet, Drain, Osmose, or "take a break..."
- Combine powers!
This command asks the sisters to use Delta Attack. If all three have their Overdrive meters full and they are not afflicted with the Curse status, Combine powers! appears on each of their turns. When used, the sisters will either use Delta Attack or (very rarely) "take a break..."
- Dismiss
Dismisses the aeon. When dismissing, any KO'd sisters will fade away instead of leaping back, and will be restored with 1 HP.

Boss[]
Final Fantasy X[]
The Magus Sisters are fought as bosses at Remiem Temple and as part of the final battles if the player acquired them as an aeon.
Also in the PAL, International, and HD Remaster versions, once Yuna and her guardians escape Bevelle, the Dark Magus Sisters will be hanging around Mushroom Rock Road and won't hesitate to attack if the party gets too close. They are considered one of the toughest superbosses in the game, but the player won't have to fight all three at once if they perform the correct maneuvers.
Final Fantasy X-2[]
The Magus Sisters return as the second aeon battle waiting to impede Yuna, Rikku and Paine's venture into the Farplane.
Other appearances[]
Dissidia Final Fantasy (2008) and Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy[]
The Magus Sisters is a summon halves the opponent's Bravery and base Bravery for a period of time. The auto version appears after the summoner's opponent deals a Bravery Break on the summoner, and shows their Final Fantasy X artwork. It can be obtained in the third stage of the Destiny Odyssey X storyline.
In Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy the Magus Sisters returns as a summonstone, with the same function. The auto version is now found in Chapter Four: Guidance of the Moon of Scenario 013.
Dissidia Final Fantasy NT[]
While not physically appearing, Yuna can summon Mindy's Glyph to use Passado.
Final Fantasy Airborne Brigade[]
The Magus Sisters from Final Fantasy X appear.
Final Fantasy Record Keeper[]
The Magus Sisters from Final Fantasy X appear as bosses.
Final Fantasy Trading Card Game[]
Magus Sisters appear in a wind-elemental card.
Behind the scenes[]
When the sisters perform their Overdrive, they surround the enemy party in eight Crystals, four of blue hue, and four of red-orange hue. This refers to Final Fantasy IV, where there were four blue Crystals of the surface world, and four red-orange Crystals of the Underground.
The BradyGames strategy guide for Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster mixes up the attack descriptions for Razzia and Camisade.

Etymology[]
Magus is the Latin word for "wizard". Its plural is Magi.
The Magus Sisters in Final Fantasy X are named after the trio of bosses that appeared in Final Fantasy IV.
The special attacks "Razzia" and "Camisade" have origins in military tactics: Razzia comes from Arabic, Ghazw, meaning "raid" and Camisado is a surprise raid on an enemy force during sleeping hours. Passado is a fencing skill—a forward lunge with an epee or rapier.
