Description
Magnify materia is a Support Materia in Final Fantasy VII Remake and "Episode INTERmission". It can be linked with Magic Materia to increase the range of spells and allow them to hit multiple targets. It can be used both with offensive magic materia to hit up to three enemies, or defensive magic materia to cure or buff all allies. Its range was extended for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.
Obtained[]
A magnify materia orb is found during the quest "Working Together Again" in "The Town That Never Sleeps", by using the third robotic arm puzzle in the Sector 6 Collapsed Expressway. The player must drop Aerith to its location and she will go pick up the orb. As with other support materia, magnify materia cannot be obtained again using chapter selection once already acquired. Where a magnify materia was previously obtained, Healing Materia replaces it.
In "Episode INTERmission", magnify is obtained from "The Happy Turtle Ad Campaign" discovery quest, and from scoring 10,000 pts in the Shinra Box Buster minigame on the SOLDIER Training difficulty.

Use[]
Magnify materia allows spells to hit multiple targets on the allied or enemy party, depending on the type of spell. If paired with Healing Materia, it will heal all allies, while if paired with damaging materia, such as Fire Materia, the spell from it will hit up to three enemies. This can be also be used to apply statuses to multiple enemies or allies, such as Time Materia for buffs to ATB charge rate, or Barrier Materia for damage mitigation. The statuses will not be reduced in their effect, but will lapse faster.
The effect of magnify materia depends on its level. At level 1, its effect will be reduced by 60%, meaning a spell will deal 40% of its normal damage, or heal at 40% of its normal capacity, if hitting multiple targets. At level 2, the effect is reduced by only 45%, meaning spells work at 55% of their full capacity if hitting multiple targets, and at level 3 the effect is reduced by only 25%, meaning spells work at 75% of their full capacity if hitting multiple targets. Magnify materia is useful to level up, and it is advisable to equip it at all times even when not in use. When magnify materia is paired to a spell, pressing will cause it to only apply to one target, avoiding any reduction. Spells cast via Synergy Materia cannot be magnified.
Magnify materia is normally best used with a healing materia. This allows it to heal all allies with a single spell, and casting Curaga on all allies can often bring the party back to full HP with only 12 MP, even with the reduced effectiveness. This is particularly important in hard mode, where MP is scarce and items cannot be used for healing. However, in cases where multiple targets are weak to the same element, pairing magnify materia with a high level damaging magic materia can potentially cripple entire groups of enemies at once. Pairing magnify to ice materia and casting Blizzard on multiple enemies can quickly knockdown and stagger groups of weaker enemies susceptible to being knocked down by it, which can sometimes grant the user with a limit break.
Because Aerith has the highest Magic attribute, and she can easily cast spells twice from one use with Arcane Ward, she is the best candidate to pair magnify with offensive and restorative spells. While Aerith is absent, Magnify should be given to the character with the highest Magic attribute to maximize damage or curative output; normally Cloud has the highest Magic, followed by Tifa, and lastly by Barret, but this is not always the case, as certain weapons and materia grant a bonus to Magic while equipped. If Magnify is linked to Time Materia, Barrier Materia, or another status effect materia, the Magic attribute has no bearing on Magnify's effectiveness; thus Cloud, Barret, Tifa, and Aerith can use it equally well.
If the Magnify materia is paired to an offensive magic materia, and a second copy of that materia is paired to MP Absorption Materia and/or HP Absorption Materia, the magnified spell will absorb MP/HP from all its targets, which can be considerably more than it would be against a single target.
In "Episode INTERmission", Yuffie can already use elemental skills without magic materia with her Elemental Ninjutsu; her magic materia can be made more worthwhile by linking them with magnify. The player can also equip it onto Sonon, who cannot use ninjutsu without being synergized with Yuffie. They can also choose to link it with healing materia on either party member. Two magnify materia can be found in "Episode INTERmission".
