Magitek (まどう, Madō?, lit. Sorcery) is an ability and a command in Final Fantasy VI. It can be used when characters are riding Magitek Armor, replacing the Attack command and Gau's Rage command. Magitek is only usable on three occasions: during the game's opening sequence at Narshe, during Sabin's time in the Imperial Camp, and while in the Dreamscape.
Mechanics[]
Magitek abilities are magical and most are unblockable. Magitek is highly powerful and requires no MP to use, but the range of abilities is limited for most characters. While in Magitek Armor, none of the evading animations will occur and the evaded attacks will merely miss the target character.
The status "Magitek", while not named in-game, is set when the party is riding Imperial Magitek Armor. The status changes the Attack command and Gau's Rage command to the Magitek command. All other commands, except Magic, Dualcast, Items, and Mimic, are disabled. The Magitek status is a unique status effect for several reasons: it cannot be removed by spells like Dispel or Esuna, and the name of this status does not show up as a status condition in battle.
Terra possesses a full set of eight Magitek commands, while other characters only have the three Beam attacks and Healing Force. The reason for this is unknown: it may have to do with Terra's innate magical powers, or she may simply have been given a stronger set of armor. In Cyan's dream sequence, if Terra is in the party, she will have access to all eight abilities. If Gogo is in the party, they will be able to mimic any of the eight abilities if they are used by Terra, but, on their own, their Magitek command will only have the base four abilities, even if Terra is also in the party. If Umaro is in the party, he will use a random Beam attack, but his Body Blow and Throw Ally attacks can still be performed. There is a Reflectable Magitek beams bug associated with the three beams.
In the Japanese version, both the party's Magic command and Magitek command share the same name: Magic. The mobile version of the Magitek abilities are classified like the party's magic spells they can learn from magicite: Fire Beam, Thunder Beam, Ice Beam, Bio Blast, Banisher, and Magitek Missile are classified as Attack magic, Healing Force as Healing magic, and Confuser as Effect magic.
