Etymology and origin[]

Magic guns, also called spellguns or casters (presumably short for "spellcaster"), are an element of science fantasy (fantasy/science fiction) that combines firearms and magic (or some other supernatural power) to create a weapon with properties of both. In many fantasy settings, magic and technology are seen as distinct, separate entities, if not unmixable/incompatible, while spellguns serve as an unusual melange of both. In real life Europe before the advent of western sciences, gunpowder and the earliest firearms were seen as the use of the dark arts, perhaps serving as a foundation of their conception in modern fantasy.

Magicite is the combination of "Magic" and "-ite". The suffix ite is derived from the Greek word lithos (from its adjectival form -ites), meaning "rock" or "stone".
