Magicite Dungeons are a dungeon type in Final Fantasy Record Keeper. They reward the player with Magicite and Magicite upgrading materials for completion. Magicite dungeons are among the most difficult regular dungeons the player can access. They are unlocked by completing the Nightmare Dungeons.

Story[]

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. (Skip section)

Upon completing the Nightmare Dungeons, a thirteenth Crystal appeared in the chamber and shattered, releasing Elarra. Floating in the chamber silently, Dr. Mog was confounded by her presence, but Tyro could hear her speaking in his mind. Elarra sought Tyro's aid in reclaiming the Magicite lost deep in the records, and took him to their realm to begin the task of restoring them. Once Tyro restored one Magicite, Elarra became able to vocally commune with him and Dr. Mog, but could not tell them much due to not having her memories; the three speculated that continuing to restore the Magicite may restore her memories as well.

With six Magicite records restored, Dr. Mog lamented his continuing failure to find leads on Elarra. At this time Cid reached out to the Royal Arcanium, a magical research hub that had been at odds with the Royal Archives in the past, and they sent a Shadowsmith to aid the group. The Shadowsmith determined that the conflicting energies of dark and holy magic from those records was creating a void that distorted memories. He suggested creating a balance between them by restoring the records, as Tyro had done to the first six records. With the dark and holy records restored, some of Elarra's power returned to her to better aid Tyro in continuing to explore the archives. However, something dark and mysterious began to stir within the archives, whispering that its virgil was at hand.

At a later date, the Shadowsmith found more powerful Magicite records in the archives, and Dr. Mog called on Tyro to brave their depths once more.

Spoilers end here.

Mechanics[]

The Magicite Dungeons are all themed around one of the game's elements. At first only the Fire, Ice, Wind, Earth, Lightning, and Water elemental dungeons are open; completing all of them at least once will unlock the Darkness and Holy dungeons. Completing all of the initial dungeons will unlock a second, more difficult tier. Graphics for the dungeons imply a third tier exists, but currently it has not been added to the game. No characters gain Record Synergy in Magicite dungeons.

In a Magicite dungeon, the boss is highly resistant to all types of elemental damage except two; their innate element, which they absorb, and one element that is their weakness. Upon completing a Magicite dungeon, the player receives the standard dungeons rewards, and additional rewards depending on how quickly they won; victory in under 30 seconds gives the maximum amount of rewards. Bosses also drop one Magicite from a potential droplist of three.

Completing Magicite dungeons efficiently requires access to a number of elemental Soul Breaks and abilities. Once the player is able to regularly complete one of them, hypothetically the next will be easier with the support of the acquired Magicite the next boss is weak too. Rarity 3 Magicites in particular tend to have abilities to counter the next boss. As an example, the Wendigo Ice Magicite can cast Haste and has an attack that can inflict Slow, which help counteract the Wind Magicite boss Fenrir inflicting Slow on the party and casting Haste on itself.

Behind the scenes[]

The six base Magicite dungeons, with each boss being weak to the element of the previous dungeon, are a reference to the elemental system of Final Fantasy XI, where these same six elements had the same cycle of effectiveness. There is no Magicite dungeon or Magicite for the Poison element, making it the only element without a corresponding Magicite.

Magicite dungeons continue the theme of high-level bosses using attacks with a certain prefix, in this case "Savage".

Etymology[]

Magicite is the combination of "Magic" and "-ite". The suffix ite is derived from the Greek word lithos (from its adjectival form -ites), meaning "rock" or "stone".
