Shoes packed with magic.

Description

The Magician Shoes are a mid game add-on in Final Fantasy IX that everyone can equip. They teach Blind, a White Magic spell that lowers a target's accuracy; Clear Headed, which protects against Confuse; and MP+10%. The Magician Shoes give a bonus to the wearer's Magic when they level up with them equipped. The Magician Shoes are made via synthesis and are themselves used to make a different pair of footwear.

Obtain[]

Two pairs of the Magician Shoes are earliest found in Cleyra's Trunk's Sandbase CleyraTreeTrunk2. The second pair is high up on a ledge CleyraTreeTrunk2. After recruiting Quina, reaching the settlement, and watching the ATEs "No Yummy-Yummies!" and "There A Mushroom!", the player needs to head to the pit right of the town entrance, and Zidane will jump in after Quina, landing by the two chests further down the trunk (Silk Robe, and Magician Shoes). The two must then climb the normal route back to the town.

The boots are also synthesized in Lindblum (second storyline visit onward), Black Mage Village (before the shop wares change after the player enters the Shimmering Island portal), Alexandria, Treno (after the party returns from the Outer Continent), and Daguerreo. To make the boots the player will need 1,500 gil, Germinas Boots, and a Bone Wrist. The Germinas Boots are also synthesized in many of these locations and Bone Wrists are sold in Treno and Alexandria.

Mechanics[]

The Magician Shoes gives +6 to Magic Evasion. It gives a +2 bonus to the wearer's Magic when they level with them equipped. When enough "bonuses" upon level up from gear have been accrued, the character gains a permanent stat increase. Magic affects spells' outcomes and the character's MP growth.

Use[]

The Magician Shoes have some good abilities and a good level up bonus for the time they can be obtained. Blind is fairly unimportant, but it is good to have Clear Headed mastered before facing the boss in Oeilvert later on, and MP+10% is useful for those who can learn it when they have Magic Stones to spare from "must have" abilities.

The Magician Shoes are used in synthesis to make the Feather Boots, which could be seen as a downgrade, but the Feather Boots are also used in synthesis to make another higher grade pair of boots.

The boots' level up bonus is good but level grinding and min-maxing are unnecessary for a normal playthrough even when preparing for superboss encounters; the player can view any extra stats as simply a nice bonus.
