Description
Magic Up materia is a Complete Materia in Final Fantasy VII Remake and "Episode INTERmission" that increases the user's Magic, thus improving their spellcasting and normal attacks for characters whose normal attack is based on magic. The increase is percentage-based: 5% at first level, up to a 25% increase at level 5.
Obtained[]
A Magic Up materia is found after completing the the "Waste Recovery" discovery quest within Mako Reactor 5 in Chapter 7, "A Trap Is Sprung". Another Magic Up is won from the Pull-Ups minigame in Chapter 14, "In Search of Hope", by completing the amateur tier against Jay.
In "Episode INTERmission", the player can find a Magic Up after finding Note from Zhijie and riding the long conveyor belt with boxes stored in the sidelines that the player can break with Yuffie's Throw.

Use[]
Magic Up materia provides a percentage-based boost to a character's magic attribute, which increases their Magic Attack, improving the effect of Magic Materia, increasing damage from offensive spells or healing from curative spells. For Aerith Gainsborough, it will also amplify the damage that her normal attacks deal, and for Yuffie in "Episode INTERmission", it will improve her ninjutsu. Elemental Materia deals its damage based on the user's magic attack, and so Magic Up can further increase the damage added by elemental.
Aerith will benefit most from equipping Magic Up materia, due to her naturally high magic attribute, abilities like Arcane Ward making her a strong spellcaster, and because it boosts her normal attacks. Cloud has the second-highest magic attribute, making him also a strong choice for the materia; Magic Up would also augment his Blade Burst. However, Magic Up materia can also benefit Tifa or Barret by helping mitigate their lower magic attributes, and would also empower Tifa's Chi Trap. If they equip a weapon that gives them a high magic attribute, and are being used for spellcasting more often, they may benefit from the materia to instead boost their naturally low attribute and improve them in this role.
The main drawback to Magic Up materia is that it takes up a materia slot that could be used for another magic or Complete Materia, such as the arguably more useful HP Up Materia or MP Up Materia. Magic Up materia should only be equipped against certain encounters where the strategy relies on magic use, provided the number of spells is sufficient.
In "Episode INTERmission", Magic Up is a great materia to equip onto Yuffie, as her basic playstyle is to throw her weapon, use Elemental Ninjutsu that target's her foe's elemental weakness, and then attack with magical ninjutsu to fill her ATB.
