Mystic Key FFIII Art

Artwork from Final Fantasy III.

A curious key said to possess the power to unlock magically-sealed treasure caskets the realm over. Arcane scholars posit that the magical energies imbued within it neutralize the incantations cast upon the chest, allowing mystic seals to be broken. A remarkable tool for treasure-hunters, unfortunately its powers are lost after a single use.

Magic Key (魔法の鍵 or まほうのかぎ, Mahou no Kagi?) is a recurring item in the Final Fantasy series.

Final Fantasy Record Keeper[]

Magic Key is a consumable item that can only be used while traversing the Labyrinth Dungeons. It allows the player the option to open additional treasure chests found within the dungeon.

Upon encountering a Treasure Painting in a Labyrinth Corridor, the player is allowed to open one of the three treasure chests within the painting without incurring additional cost. In order to open more than one treasure chest, the player must use a Magic Key to open a second treasure chest, and two additional keys for the last remaining chest, for a total of three Magic Keys if the player intends to open all three treasure chests within the painting.

Magic Keys can be found as treasures in the Labyrinth Corridors behind Treasure or Exploration Paintings, drop from enemies found within the Labyrinth Corridors, and First Time, Completion or Mastery rewards from completing any Labyrinth Corridors and Labyrinth Nexus. Completing certain Missions, daily or permanent, also reward players with Magic Keys.
