Spell Magic is a type of ability in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth available to party members with the relevant Magic Materia Magic Materia equipped. It allows the user to cast magic with the Spells command. Magic spells can provide offensive and defensive effects, but cost MP as well as ATB charges to cast. Outside of battle, curative spells can be cast.

Spells have a number of curative, status-inducing, or damaging effects. A spellcaster can be interrupted during cast animation, which means the spell will not be cast but the user will still lose ATB and MP (unless they are cast via Synergy Materia Synergy Materia). A number of abilities can protect against interruption during spellcasting. Certain status effects prevent the afflicted from using magic.

A number of offensive spells, as in other Final Fantasy titles, are divided into three tiers: basic, intermediate, and advanced. The highest spell tier uses two ATB charges rather than one. Higher tiers are also slightly slower to cast. When spells are used within an Arcane Ward, they are cast twice.
