Rem's childhood friend and an Agito cadet in Class 0. Developing an extreme fear of death after the loss of his brother to war, he lusts for power that would allow him to protect those he loves. Perhaps due to his pure and honest nature, he sometimes loses himself to the voices of those around him.

Story[]

Spiritus summons Machina to the world of respite, explaining to him about the current situation of the world. Golbez chances upon him, mistaking him for one of Class Zero cadets he is familiar with. To Machina's surprise, Golbez tells him about the cadets he has met, but is hesitant to meet them. Machina decides to meet with the others and reveals himself to them, but realizes they don't share the same memories as he does. After persuasion from Rem, Machina agrees to travel with them. The others begin to suspect he knows something he is not letting on.

After the Cloud of Darkness gives Ace his brilliance and he recalls Machina's "treachery", he summons Akademeia where Class Zero could live and be remembered.[1] Ace confronts Machina for his attitudes, until realizing he was being manipulated by the Cloud of Darkness, who wanted to use him to bring the world back to nothingness by flooding it with darkness.

Gameplay[]

Machina's kit revolves around dealing high damage both on-turn and off-turn. His first skill, Awakening, gives him a free turn and important buffs to his ATK, SPD and mBRV; his second skill, Cyclone Drive, is notable as it inflicts break no matter the enemy's BRV.

The core of Machina's gameplay is his Spiral's Lynchpin debuff, which is inflicted to enemies through his LD attack, Stunning Slash; this enables Machina to deal an additional attack whenever he attacks or after an enemy's turn inflicted with the debuff. His EX, Guardian Blades, also grants him a buff that enables a counter attack whenever he's directly attacked.

Machina's BT attack, Illuminating the Future, gives him access to Furious Blades (Burst), a modified version of his regular HP attack that deals high damage. His FR attack, Beyond the Attonement, features Kain, and its conditions are supplemented by Machina's kit, as the conditions favors melee attacks both on-turn and off-turn. This makes Machina's Force Time formidable when paired with other melee-oriented characters with off-turn attacks, such as Yang, Galuf, Cor and Gladiolus.
