Lunar Odin is an optional boss in the Finest Fantasy for Advance and Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection ports of Final Fantasy IV. It is fought during Cecil's Lunar Trial at the Lunar Ruins. When beaten, the player obtains the Lightbringer, which is Cecil's most powerful weapon depending on the good deeds he had done in the trial, and the Grimoire LO which, if used as an item, summons Lunar Odin to deal 9,999 damage to all enemies. Using up the Grimoire unlocks the trial door again.

Stats

Battle

When the player obtains the weapon from the king, they should equip it, then fight Lunar Odin. Lunar Odin starts off with Zantetsuken which could kill the party if they are under 5,000 HP. Lunar Odin is weak against Lightning.

Lunar Odin will use Zantetsuken often; this happens right after Lunar Odin raises his sword. Eventually, he will cast Haste on himself, a sign he is preparing to use Zantetsuken twice in a row, which is virtually impossible to survive. If Lunar Odin is struck with a lightning attack, however, after casting Haste on himself he will die automatically regardless of HP.

Strategy

The party should heal the damage from Zantetsuken with Curaja then start pummeling Lunar Odin with their most powerful attacks. Rydia should cast Bahamut, Flare, or Meteor every turn. Using Thundaga helps a lot, as it is Lunar Odin's weakness. Rosa should continue to heal or use Holy.

An easy way to win is to cast Thundaga and just defend until Lunar Odin dies.

Edward can use hide to avoid Zantetsuken.

Etymology

Luna means "moon" in Latin, Italian, Romanian, Russian, and Spanish.

In Germanic mythology, Odin (from Old Norse Óðinn) is a widely revered god. In Norse mythology, from which stems most of our information about the god, Odin is associated with healing, death, royalty, the gallows, knowledge, battle, sorcery, poetry, frenzy, and the runic alphabet, and is the husband of the goddess Frigg.
