It is fought by examining the dark crystal present in the Lair of the Father section of the True Moon, and is fought in place of Deathgaze, who is battled in previous ports. When beaten, the player is given to opportunity to teach the Dualcast ability to Palom, Porom, or Leonora, but only one may learn it.

Stats[]

Battle[]

Lunar Dragon is a challenging foe that can use all three -ga spells at will, Tornado, and may make use of the status inflicting Stone Gaze, Sleeping Gas, Poison Gas and Constrict. After a certain amount of time is passed, Lunar Dragon disperses into mist, rendering all damaging attacks made against it harmless. In this form, it will counter every attack with Freezing Mist, so it is wise not to act during this time. Near the end of the battle, the Lunar Dragon will begin to use Holy, Icestorm, and Restore, the latter of which heals it for 9,999 HP. It is also capable of countering all attacks with Protect and Shell.

Strategy[]

White Mages like Porom, Rosa and Leonora (and even minor healers like Cecil, Ceodore, and Kain) should cast Slow on the beast, then go about casting Protect and Shell on the entire team, and perhaps even casting Haste on them. Physical attackers should attack normally, and Black Mages should cast their strongest spells to whittle down the boss's HP. A sturdy, balanced team ought to be used for the fight, preferably one with access to powerful Band abilities that reduce high amounts of HP quickly. Golbez's Taunt ability directs Lunar Dragon's physical attacks towards him, sparing the others. Having Protect and Shell on him helps.

Etymology[]

Luna means "moon" in Latin, Italian, Romanian, Russian, and Spanish.

A dragon is a legendary creature, typically with serpentine or reptilian traits, which is featured in the myths of many cultures.
