Shinra SOLDIER: P0 Class.

An advisory officer for the military, she spends her days training cadets. However, she volunteers to join Glenn on his mission to exercise her skills as a sniper.

Official website description[2][3]

Lucia Lin is a character in Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier and a playable unit in Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis. In the former, she is featured in both the opening movie and the game proper, acting as the player's commanding officer and offering feedback during the tutorial. Shortly after the announcement of The First Soldier shutting down, players received a graduation notice stating that Lucia had recommended the player to be promoted to SOLDIER, and they would subsequently be assigned to the top-secret mission "FIRST SOLDIER Operation" alongside Glenn Lodbrok and Matt Winsord.

History[]

As a member of the Shinra Electric Power Company's Security Forces, Lucia met Glenn and Matt during training and soon became responsible for keeping them out of trouble.[4] In [ μ ] – εγλ 1988, Lucia was part of an operation in which she helped them evacuate during a Behemoth attack. The following year, Lucia acted as commanding officer for Project 0’s 4th testing group, training and instructing candidates as they entered the SOLDIER Project 0 program.

In [ μ ] – εγλ 1992 she deployed under Glenn's command on a secret mission to the Rhadore Archipelago, under the guise of acting as a survey unit for Shinra, checking the main island for mako reactor suitability.

FF7EverCrisis FirstSOLDIER Lucia Awakened

Lucia wakes up ready for combat.

As the group's helicopter arrived at the archipelago, a sudden explosion tore the cockpit clean off, causing a crash-landing. While Lucia and Glenn remained close to the crash site, Matt was thrown a considerable distance.

Lucia was woken up by Glenn, and after being confronted by the strange local monsters, they changed into survival gear and began a search for Matt, who found them wandering the forest not long afterward.[5] After reuniting and giving Matt a fresh set of clothes, the three discussed where they were, proposing that they had crashed on one of the smaller islands in the archipelago.

After traveling the island for a while, the three were cornered by a swarm of vicious beasts. As they planned their next move, a strange dog appeared on a rocky outcropping nearby, helping to drive the creatures away. The dog's owner, a mysterious boy in Rhadoran attire, identified the dog as Refu, and took the group to an orchard where a fruit that drives away the creatures could be found. While the group attempted to use their cover story, the boy saw through it and asked what their purpose was.[6]

Despite knowing the purpose of Team Glenn's mission, Rosen wanted the three to simply leave the island and let him return to his work. He provided Team Glenn with a boat, which they used to travel to the main island. They made camp then head to the Logues Ruins to test mako levels. Upon finding a suitable location for the mako reactor, Rhadore Remnants located them and surrounded the team. Sephiroth entered battle, dropped in from a helicopter, and obliterated the army before introducing himself to the team. He informed them he was sent to take command of the team.

Under Sephiroth's command, Team Glenn eliminated the Rhadoran remnants, and Shinra began construction on the reactor. The construction efforts destabilized the island, and the engineers ordered an evacuation. Glenn, however, defied orders commandeered a helicopter with Lucia and Matt's help. The four SOLDIERs flew to Sijad to warn Rosen and escort him to safety.

There, Glenn, Matt, and Lucia questioned the morality of their actions under Shinra. Sephiroth struck down Rosen, the last of the Rhadorans, and the island collapsed in a mako torrent.

After the failed Rhadore mission, Lucia accompanied Glenn in his efforts to form the Shinra Resistance Committee before joining Avalanche, where she and Matt led teams of insurgents to raid the Shinra building in [ ν ] – εγλ 0007.

Characteristics[]

Appearance[]

Lucia is a young woman with a lean and toned build. She has dark hair cut in a short and clean style, and light brown eyes. She wears her SOLDIER uniform neatly, and dresses in a stylish and trendy fashion outside of that. She seems to have a similar build to other known female SOLDIER operatives.

Personality[]

Lucia is a fierce warrior, constantly ready for action. Her constant alertness means that she is incredibly perceptive but also tense, anxious, and pessimistic. She struggles to be herself around people she does not know well, leading to her feeling isolated while surrounded by SOLDIER recruits. She has little patience for Glenn's jokes, particularly in moments of duress, and is incredibly squeamish. She is fearful of the future of Project 0, emphasizing their expendability and lack of worth to the company.

In spite of this, Lucia is also gentle and kind, with a soft spot for Rosen's dog, Refu, and young Sephiroth. Despite her annoyance with Glenn, she still loyally stands by him when he decides to defy orders to rescue Rosen.

Lucia earned the nickname "Marksqueen" due to her skill with firearms, and gains great satisfaction in taking down giant targets with a giant gun. She is not opposed to kidnapping as a tactic, suggesting the team hold Rosen and other Rhadorans as hostages and holding a pilot at gunpoint when commandeering a helicopter.

Abilities[]

Lucia has incredible skill with long-range weapons, showing her marksmanship abilities with her personal rifle, the Queen. She can unleash a carefully placed Queen's Shot as a limit break, dealing massive amounts of damage to an enemy. In her second limit break, Cerulean Raven, she sits on the ground and charges one large blast from her rifle.

Behind the scenes[]

In the original Final Fantasy VII, Cloud Strife suggests that the Turks are after Aerith Gainsborough because they want to recruit her to SOLDIER.[7] Despite this, no apparent female members of the force appeared in Final Fantasy VII, Remake, Crisis Core, or Before Crisis.

Etymology[]

Lucia is both a feminine given name and a surname. Comes from the Latin word Lux (Light). It is the feminine form of the Roman praenomen Lucius.

According to Tetsuya Nomura, Lucia's name is derived from the word "tea" in "green matcha tea," which he was drinking at the time he named the members of Glenn's crew, with Glenn being derived from "green" and Matt from "matcha," respectively.[8]
