Lucia, at your service. Pray excuse our reticence. We are but wary of speaking too freely, lest our sentiments be made known to our enemies.

Lucia

Lucia Junius [ˈluː.si.ə ˈdʒuː.ni.əs], formerly Lucia goe Junius, is a non-playable character in Final Fantasy XIV. She is Lord Commander Aymeric de Borel's second in command in the Temple Knights of Ishgard. She achieved the rank of 'goe' prior to her defection from the Garlean Empire.

History[]

Early life[]

Lucia and her sister, Livia, lost their parents in a war and were separated. While Livia chose to become a soldier, Lucia became a spy. She was sent to spy on Ishgard, but found herself at Ser Aymeric's side for a different reason. Having found a man she could follow and a home, she abandoned the Empire.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn[]

Lucia accompanied Ser Aymeric during his meetings with Alphinaud Leveilleur and the Warrior of Light. Initially identified as a "Taciturn Temple Knight", she didn't formally introduce herself until Aymeric asked the Scions of the Seventh Dawn to meet with her if he was unavailable. She later arrived at the Rising Stones asking the Scions investigate the The Keeper of the Lake, due to Ishgard's astrologians seeing a repeat of the signs that had occurred during the Battle of Silvertear Skies when Midgardsormr had called the horde to attack the Garlean fleet.

The investigation revealed it was not the dragon Midgardsormr—who had merely awoken to join the chorus—but rather his son, Nidhogg, the archenemy of the Holy See who had called for a raid on Ishgard. Due to complications resulting from Lady Iceheart's sabotage of Daniffen's Collar, the Steps of Faith became vulnerable to attack by Nidhogg's champion, Vishap. When Vishap nearly breached the final Ward through the Steps of Faith, Lucia and her knights risked their lives by creating a shield, holding out against Vishap's burning flames long enough for the Warrior of Light and their allies to slay Vishap, ending the battle.

Lucia and Ser Aymeric later attended the sultana's banquet in Ul'dah as representatives of Ishgard. Several templars arrived with Teledji Adeledji, who claimed that the Dravanians had unexpectedly renewed their assault and they needed to return. Thus they did not witness to the events to come.

Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward[]

After settling in Ishgard and aiding friends for a period of time, the Warrior of Light met up with Ser Aymeric and Lucia by his side. As they prepared for another attack from the Dravanian Horde, Lucia was present when Alphinaud Leveilleur and Estinien Wyrmblood proposed to parley with the dragons.

At the Warrior of Light's returned from Dravania, all was revealed about the true history of Ishgard and the reasons for the unending war. When an angered Aymeric declared his intent to reason with the Archbishop Thordan VII, Lucia warned him to be careful. After he departed, Lucia reasoned with the Scions that Aymeric long dreamed for reform and believed the archbishop would not cause harm by revealing the rumor of Aymeric's supposed parentage. If he were to not return, Lucia would personally fetch him. The Scions, Lord Haurchefant Greystone, and Estinien agreed to aid her.

Lucia helped the Warrior of Light's brawl against Ser Charibert, but explained that Ser Aymeric had been imprisoned and the Heavens' Ward placed in command of the Temple Knights. With the help of the Brume's Hilda the Mongrel, Lucia hatched a plan to lure most of Ishgard's defenders away from the Vault, leaving it open for her to rescue Ser Aymeric. She succeeded, and was present at Thordan VII's escape and Lord Haurchefant's death.

Lucia and Aymeric deduced that the Heavens' Ward had displayed unnatural powers and she offered to help the Scions search for the missing archbishop while Aymeric handled Ishgard's political situation. She found the archbishop's trail to Camp Cloudtop and later saved the Scions from the Garlean troops while riding a Magitek Armor.

As the Scions and Lucia set for Azys Lla, she revealed her true identity as a Garlean, and more specifically, as Livia sas Junius's sister. They had been separated after their parents' death and had taken up different roles: Livia as a soldier and Lucia as a spy. She had been sent to Ishgard to find Allagan relics in the Vault, presumably the key to Azys Lla, but instead had found Ser Aymeric. She had been drawn to him as a "prisoner of his past" by heritage, but had "risen above it". She had deemed him a man worth following and later confessed all—her race, identity and mission—to him. In return, he had accepted her into his service.

You are a true hero, my friend. The minstrels shall sing of your deeds for generations to come. The road to reform will be long and trying, but Ser Aymeric will not rest until he reaches its end. And I shall walk with him every step of the way.

Lucia

Lucia returned to aid Ser Aymeric upon the Warrior of Light's return to Ishgard. When the Warrior left again to Azys Lla, she bade them farewell and promised to pray for their preservation. She was part of the welcoming party when the Warrior returned and witnessed Midgardsormr's message to Ishgard, the joining of Ishgard to the Eorzean Alliance, and helped Ser Aymeric rebuild Ishgard.

Ser Aymeric requested that the Scions escort Lucia to Anyx Trine as his representative.[1] She was introduced to the dragon Vidofnir, who explained Ser Aymeric's requests for parley. Vidofnir could not give an answer until she consulted with her father, Hraesvelgr. She was later met in Ishgard, where she explained the attempt on Aymeric's life, and the arson that had followed. A faction of the clergy and fundamentalists, the True Brothers of the Faith, were behind both acts, having come to deny that their kingdom and faith was founded on their forebears' lies. Instead of seeing Ser Aymeric as a leader who aided the Scions in revealing the truth, they saw him as a scheming usurper who allowed the Warrior of Light kill the Archbishop to claim leadership of Ishgard. Worse, they learned that the Brotherhood had seized control of the Vault and were holding innocent civilians hostage. In return for the people's safety, they demanded a conclave to choose the next Archbishop and for Ser Aymeric to be tried for treason and patricide. Lucia found their demands and intentions ridiculous, believing that the truth would not die with Ser Aymeric, but agreed with the Lord Commander that the Brotherhood must be stopped.

With the Scions' aid, Ser Aymeric and the Temple Knights saved the civilians but the Brotherhood's leader held a young girl hostage over a balcony. Rather than surrender, the mad clergyman threw the poor girl off the balcony, but the dragon Vidofnir saved her. Lucia welcomed the dragon personally and thanked her for saving the child.

Following this brief crisis with the True Brothers of the Faith, Lucia took part in the Grand Melee. With the Warrior of Light on their side, Ishgard won. The Melee's intent was to instill a sense of unity and hope for a the people, allowing Ser Aymeric to open a dialog with the dragons of Anyx Trine and bring about a peaceful resolution to the Dragonsong War. While the summit proceeded as hoped, Nidhogg possessed the body of Estinien Wyrmblood and ruined the summit by wounding Vidofnir and instilling a final threat to the Ishgardian people, swearing to have his vengeance against Thordan's descendants. Lucia attended to Vidofnir's wounds as the people began to cry "Death to Nidhogg".

With a peaceful solution to the Dragonsong War no longer an option, Ser Aymeric aimed to enlist the aid of Hraesvelgr, the Black Wyrm's sole equal, to help them defend Ishgard.[2] As he traveled with the Scions to convince the dragon, he entrusted the city's defenses to Lucia. She led the knights of Ishgard in the final battle at the Steps of Faith and they held the line long enough for the Warrior of Light and Ser Aymeric to return with Hraesvelgr. As the Warrior of Light battled Nidhogg, Lucia helped Aymeric in supporting the Temple Knights. After an arduous struggle, and with the aid of Hraesvelgr's eye, the Warrior of Light brought Nidhogg low and freed Estinien from his grasp.

With the battle over, Lucia attended the gathering Ser Aymeric had called as his final act as acting head of state. He proclaimed to abolish the theocracy and the rule would be given to the people of Ishgard. The new republic would have high and lowborn alike represented in the House of Lords and House of Commons. Though Ser Aymeric aimed to step down from his nation's leadership, both Houses agreed to make him their nation's leader as Speaker of the House of Lords. Convinced to take the part, the leadership as Lord Commander of the Temple Knights presumably fell to Lucia.

Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood[]

Lucia partook in the siege of Ala Mhigo as Ser Aymeric's right hand. She witnessed the arrival of Doman forces led by Lord Hien and Yugiri Mistwalker.

Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers[]

When the Scions headed to Ishgard to find Estinien, the Warrior of Light asked Lucia about his whereabouts. Lucia was later seen in the battle at Paglth'an, fighting the Telophoroi alongside Ser Aymeric.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker[]

Owing to both her being Garlean and knowing how to fight in cold weather from her time in Coerthas, Lucia was selected to lead the Ilsabard Contingent, a joint operation between nations across the world to enter Garlemald and fight the Telophoroi.

After escorting their convoy and establishing a base just outside of Garlemald, Lucia named the camp as Camp Broken Glass, due to the icy grounds. She held a meeting with the Contingent leaders, with Maxima as her advisor, and directed assignments. She had the Scions seek out survivors.

When the Contingent found and captured a young Garlean man attempting to steal food, he was brought to Lucia. The man, Jullus, from the Ist Legion, was disgusted about Lucia and Maxima, both born Garleans, for siding with Eorzeans, outright calling them traitors. Lucia tried to convince him they didn't come to Garlemald to conquer but to help. He refused to believe her, but Lucia suggested Jullus escort a small delegation to his leader and plead their case. Jullus reluctantly agreed, and the delegation consisted of Warrior of Light, Alphinaud, and Alisaie Leveilleur.

The Ist Legion attempted to surprise the Ilsabard Contingent by attacking them and stealing their supplies, but thanks to Thancred, the Contingent got a wing of this plan, and stopped them without casualties on either side. After the fighting died down, Lucia told Jullus that the Xth Legion, which the Ist Legion was counting on to reinforce them, had been ambushed by the Telophoroi and nearly wiped out. The survivors had made contact with the Grand Company of Eorzea and accepted their help. Hearing this, Jullus's pride died after hearing his countrymen were slaughtered, and what was left of the Garlean Empire, was effectively dead.

After Zodiark's death, the Scions informed Lucia that the Final Days were coming. She wished them good luck on whatever happened, while she remained in Garlemald to keep things there in order.

Lucia assisted the Thavnarian refugees to reach safety, as they came under attack by beasts of the Final Days in Garlemald. When the Scions returned from Ultima Thule, she was in Garlemald alongside Maxima and Jullus, as they witnessed the starship Ragnarok.

Characteristics[]

Appearance[]

Lucia is a tall Garlean woman with platinum blonde hair with a bang partially obscuring the right side of her face. She wears a heavy suit of gray plate armor with a partial black skirt with red trim. She wears a narrow headband that covers the "third-eye" pure-blooded Garleans are known for.

Personality[]

Steadfast, reliable, and dutiful, Lucia takes her role as a Temple Knight with determination and honor. She is especially loyal to her commander, Aymeric de Borel, admiring his leadership, values and ideals despite the hardships of his youth, finding him as someone she can follow.

Even though she was a Garlean agent sent to spy on Ishgard, she grew to love her adopted home, not hesitating to abandon the land of her birth for a place she felt she had a purpose. However, she was not blind to the zealousness of Ishgard's orthodox leadership, finding the flaws in it and thus was a firm supporter of Aymeric's desire for reform.

She was not particularly close to her sister Livia, ultimately accepting the choices she made and thus, did not hold a grudge or ill feelings towards the Scions of the Seventh Dawn for striking Livia down.

Behind the scenes[]

Before being confirmed in Heavensward, there was already speculation that Lucia was Garlean, as looking under her tiara revealed something akin to a Garlean third eye. Additionally, her platinum blonde hair is a common trait of a Garlean.

Livia's helmet has an eyepatch obscuring where her right eye would be, whereas Lucia's hair covers the left half of her face.

Voice[]

Lucia is voiced by Tara Platt in the English version of A Realm Reborn, and Lydia Leonard starting in Heavensward.

She is voiced by Sayaka Ohara in the Japanese version, who also lent her voice to Livia.

Etymology[]

Lucia is both a feminine given name and a surname. Comes from the Latin word Lux (Light). It is the feminine form of the Roman praenomen Lucius. Her last name, Junius, is the Latin word for "June".

Notes[]

  1. Encyclopædia Eorzea: The World of Final Fantasy XIV p.185 gives Livia's age as 26 in the same paragraph it states Lucia is her younger sister, yet on p.152 Lucia's age is given as 28.
