Calls upon the power of love to attack enemies and cure allies' status ailments.

Description

Love Serenade, also known as Love Sonata,[1][2] is a Dance option for Mog in Final Fantasy VI. It grants the abilities Will o' the Wisp, Apparition, Snare, and Tapir. These abilities have a variety of effects, where the most common deals fire-elemental damage to one opponent, and the least common cures all negative status effects.

Obtained[]

Love Serenade is learned by battling in the following locations with Mog in the party: South Figaro, Zozo, Phantom Train, Opera House, Vector, Imperial Observation Post, Magitek Research Facility, Burning Home, Figaro Castle, Ancient Castle, Imperial Palace, Owzer's Mansion, Cultists' Tower, Dreamscape, Narshe, Kefka's Tower, and Soul Shrine.

Gogo can also use any Dance that Mog has learned by equipping Dance in Gogo's ability menu.

Use[]

Love Serenade largely attacks single targets, and is a potentially useful but unreliable Dance option. Its most common attack deals heavy fire-elemental damage to one target, which can be useful when battling enemies weak to fire. Its other abilities are still strong but less reliable. Apparition can inflict confuse on an opponent, which can greatly reduce their threat, but many stronger enemies are immune to the effect. Similarly, Snare can inflict instant death, but has a low chance of applying.

Tapir, the rarest ability, will cure all negative statuses. Though this is an extremely beneficial effect, Forest Nocturne is somewhat more reliable in this regard, due to the higher chance of curing statuses. Nonetheless, Love Serenade can be useful against enemies weak to fire that inflict negative statuses.

As with Dance in general, using it will make Mog uncontrollable for the rest of the fight. As such, players should be certain that they will only want Mog for these abilities for the rest of the battle, and should be prepared for a degree of randomness. Because Dance's damage is magic based, if players wish to use Mog this way, leveling him up with magicite that boosts his Magic stat is ideal; alternatively, players may prefer to use Dragoon Boots and rely on his physical damage from spears, meaning Strength should be used instead.
