Lone Wolf the Pickpocket (こそドロ一匹オオカミ, Kosodoro Ippiki Ōkami?, lit. Lone Wolf the Pilferer) is a recurring character in the series. He is a werewolf, a thief, and steals treasure from chests before the party obtains them. He is frequently seen imprisoned.

Appearances[]

Final Fantasy V[]

Lone Wolf is imprisoned in Castle Walse. The party can free him or leave him captured. If he is freed, he will steal some treasures from chests in dungeons elsewhere in the world, leaving a note behind, and the party cannot get the loot.

The treasures he steals are two Cottages in Castle Tycoon, a Cottage in Surgate Castle, a Cottage in Carwen, and the Blitz Whip in Jachol Cave. Those five treasures are not counted on the percent of treasures looted, and the Blitz Whip can also be stolen from Flaremancers in the Fork Tower, but it will be lost forever if not obtained before the tower's destruction.

He flees to the North Mines and the party can follow him to the Narshe Cliffs where Valigarmanda is sitting.

Lone Wolf holds Mog hostage. If the party waits where he asks them to for a minute, he and Mog will fly off the ledge, and the party must choose to save either Lone Wolf or Mog. Freeing Lone Wolf yields a Gold Hairpin, while freeing Mog recruits him to the party. No matter whom the party chooses, Lone Wolf will fall. When the party returns to Narshe in the World of Ruin, Lone Wolf is running out of Narshe.

Final Fantasy XIV[]

A Lupin thief known as the Wolf Burglar serves as the recurring antagonist for the Even Further Adventures of Hildibrand quest line. He kidnaps Hildibrand, believing him to be a rare statue. In the process of rescuing him an explosion causes both the Wolf Burglar and Hildibrand to dangle off a cliff edge, forcing the Warrior of Light to choose who to save, in an homage to the events at Narshe Cliffs.

Other media[]

Lone Wolf the Pickpocket is mentioned in a Mognet letter in Dissidia Final Fantasy, and ends up stealing from Benjamin the moogle.

Etymology[]

A lone wolf is an animal or person that generally lives or spends time alone instead of with a group. The term originates from wolf behavior. Normally a pack animal, wolves that have left or been excluded from their pack are described as lone wolves.
