Before his compatriot Mahaud could land a direct hit on him, the Warrior of Light runs in front of the man and is almost hit by the spell but is protected with Haima by Loifa. After they realize there are too many prying eyes, he tells them to not get in their way again, and teleport away.[1]

Loifa confronts Lalah

Loifa is confronted by Lalah and the Warrior of Light in the Arboretum.

Loifa and his comrades venture into Saint Mocianne's Arboretum in order to find the muscmaloi plant, until they are confronted by Lalah Jinjahl and the Warrior. They do battle with them but are defeated in combat, before he is questioned, Ancel teleports away taking Loife and Mahaud with him.[1]

The trio track down Faldrinet in Central Thanalan, where he is attempting to purchase muscmaloi from a certain apothecary, before they can do any harm to him, the Warrior once again steps in. Loifa states how he regrets sparing the adventurers life and Lalah questions why they would do such things against good natured souls. Loifa states that they are just fools believing whatever they're told, and he asks Faldrinet about the weight of his sins. Faldrinet states how he fights against the fate of unfortunate souls dying without reason and fights against it. Loifa enlarges an Antling, as it approaches to attack Fladrinet, he provokes Ancel, causing Loifa's compatriots to lose control and fall to the ground. Faldrinet lures the Antling away and Lalah stays behind to handle the current situation while the adventurer assists Faldrinet.[2]

Following the defeat of the Antling, they notice that the fugitive's condition hasn't changed, and Lalah worries about their symptoms, noting that it's from the enhancement, knowing of the forbidden procedure and the harm it causes. She states that living beings have a limit of corporeal aether, and that forcibly fortifying it causes complications, and that a rogue healer used this on countless people and that rumors of this happening were denounced by the Forum. Loifa states how naive they are before preparing to leave, the apothecary tells them to wait, realizing that the two with the enhancement; Mahaud and Ancel, are her children that she hasn't seen in years. They teleport away and the apothecary reveals that they were her adopted children with Mahaud sick from aetherspurn, an incurable illness where the body doesn't retrieve aether from food, and Mahaud who was attacked by a beast and was to be bedridden forever.[2]

Lalah has some doubts about saving him, as he killed her mother for the sage equipment, but also not knowing what they seek. after some reflection, she tells the adventurer to heal him. After waking, Loifa demands to know where his compatriots are, before being told they are not present. Lalah asks what happened, and Loifa yells that it was Guildivain who was still out there because of her actions. He reveals his past with Guildivain, and the suffering he caused, only for him to break down and says he would be rather dead than live suffering. The Warrior consoles him, saying he still has more life to live. And Loifa breaks down in tears, begging the two to help him. They all return to Idyllshire to prepare and learn from command that they have found evidence in Guildivain's lab, and no record of the healer Faldrinet, confirming his false identity.[3]

Lalah reveals to Loifa that the crystal he took was from her mother, and Loifa tells the story of what happened. Her mother spotted them from Physis Technon to aid them, but their companion flew into a frenzy and took her life, with him apologizing for not being able to help her mother and asks for forgiveness. She needs no forgiveness, and instead hopes that he will fight for the future of all lives.[3]

While waiting for command to find Guildivain, Lalah surmises that they should hone their skills by assisting those in the town. Loifa and the Warrior meet with Midnight Dew to look for those in need and is told to venture into the Hinterlands to find adventurers in need. She mentions how they all work together like a family, striking a chord within Loifa, and playfully tells the Warrior of light to keep up. After saving a couple adventurers, one of them thanks him profusely, surprising Loifa, as he has a wife and a child on the way and took jobs way over his head in need of money. Loifa noted his will to live was strong, and that he had one once, a dream of overcoming his illness and protecting the forest as a Wood-warder, to repay his people for not giving up on him. He states his dream died when he was in the laboratory. He is glad to have met Lalah and the Warrior as they have given him hope, a warmth and comfort, and also a purpose.[4]

After their training, Lalah tells them that they have found his lair, in the Dravanian Forelands, and learn that Guildivain studied somanoutics, and had a wife who fell ill with an incurable disease, changing who he was since then. Lalah states that she is working on a countermeasure to his somanoutics and asks her friends to be patient.

They all enter the cave and find Mahaud and Ancel suffering from their condition and are ordered to attack by Guildivain. The trio subdue their friends, and Guildivain comes from the shadows to attack Loifa, who is protected by the Warrior, Loifa promises not to fall again, and with their friends returned to their senses they fight Giuldivain. During the fight, he uses his Craniotomy on everyone but the warrior and Loifa, but are saved and they defeat and apprehend Guildivain.[5]

Loifa decides to have him tried in Sharlayan instead of killing him there and offers to give Lalah her mother's soul crystal back, but she declines the offer, as it belongs to him now to bring honor to her mother's memory. Lalah takes Guildivain into custody where he will be transported back home to be tried, while the others return to Idyllshire.[5]

Following Giuldivain's hand over, Lalah arrives to tell Loifa that she told the Forum that the fugitives escaped with no trail to follow and explains that she has reason to believe they knew more about Guildivan's activites than they let on. Loifa thanks her with a cheeky comment with her rebutting in kind. Ancel jabs at Loifa stating that he doesn't like to be alone.[5]
