Loazenikwe is a non-playable character in Final Fantasy XIV. She appears during the Tank role quests in the Dawntrail expansion.
History[]
Before Dawntrail[]
In the remote village in the frigid northern reaches of Xak Tural, the sacred artifact known as the Cradle of the Sleepless was a closely guarded meant to protect the village. While Tentoawa served as the Wide Eye, remaining awake for ten years to protect his village, Loazenikwe, the Shut Eye, bore the weight of his slumber by sleeping in his place. One day, an Elezen woman named Leophyne, had arrived in the village disguised as a scholar, offering supplies in exchange for knowledge about the Cradle. Under the guise of scholarly interest, she won their trust and then betrayed them, fleeing with the artifact.[1]
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail[]
Determined to recover the cradle and prevent its misuse, Tentoawa set out on a perilous journey across the sea to the distant city of Ishgard, where Leophyne was going. Meanwhile, Loazenikwe remained in Tuliyollal due to concerns that her presence might hinder Tentoawa, sought someone to aid him. On the recommendation of Br'uk Evu, Loazenikwe enlisted the help of the Warrior of Light to follow Tentoawa to Ishgard and assist in his quest.[1]
After receiving a letter from Tentoawa, Loazenikwe became concerned about his condition and traveled to Ishgard. Upon arriving, she discovered that Tentoawa had been a victim of the Cradle and was in a deep sleep. She suggested a remedy used by her people to rouse those trapped in deep slumber. Loazenikwe asked the Warrior of Light to gather two ingredients: dandelions from the Churning Mists and morbol saliva from the Dravanian hinterlands. After collecting both, Loazenikwe prepared a mixture that successfully awakened Tentoawa. Their reunion was heartfelt, and though Tentoawa expressed regret over his failure, Loazenikwe's and the Warrior of Light's encouragement renewed his resolve.[2]
Tentoawa, though visibly healthier, still bore signs of weariness as he prepared for what lay ahead. Lacking any leads on Leophyne's whereabouts, Tentoawa agreed to Loazenikwe's suggestion to investigate her past, volunteering to speak with her former squadron. Tentoawa listened closely to the tales of Leophyne's fall from grace, particularly the tragic event where she fell asleep on duty, leading to the deaths of her comrades. Suspecting Leophyne would target a delegation traveling to Ok' Zundu, the party returned to speak with Firmalbert, requesting an audience with Ser Handeloup and devise a strategy to lure her out.[3]
When Tentoawa and Loazenikwe had been ready to depart to the Sea of Clouds, Ser Handeloup arrived with the much-awaited news. The joint operation against Leophyne had been approved, and the Vanu Vanu had agreed to join forces with the Temple Knights if Leophyne appeared. With this confirmation, Tentoawa, Loazenikwe, and the Warrior of Light made their way to Ok' Zundu, where they were heartily greeted by Sonu Vanu. Sonu informed them that the visit would proceed as planned, but with heightened vigilance for any sign of Leophyne. Their caution was soon justified when a Zundu warrior interrupted, reporting that an Ishgardian airship had crashed nearby. Without hesitation, the party rushed to the outskirts of Ok' Zundu to assist the fallen warriors.[4]
The Warrior of Light, Tentoawa, and Loazenikwe joining the Temple Knights in holding back Leophyne's forces. Meanwhile, the Zundu warriors performed the sundrop dance to awakening those affected by the Cradle of the Sleepless. In the heat of the fight, Leophyne unleashed the Cradle, causing Tentoawa to fall into a deep sleep while trying to shield Loazenikwe and the Warrior of Light. With Tentoawa incapacitated, the Warrior of Light defended him as the Zundu performed the ritual to awaken him. As the tide of battle turned, Leophyne made a final, desperate attempt to use the Cradle on Tentoawa once more. However, the Warrior of Light intervened, taking the full brunt of the Cradle’s power and falling into a deep slumber. Seizing the opportunity, Tentoawa launched a decisive attack on Leophyne, recovering the Cradle and using its power against her. As Leophyne grew drowsy, she stumbled and fell from the precipice into the Sea of Clouds, her griffin diving after her in a last-ditch attempt to save its master.[4]
With the Cradle of the Sleepless back in its rightful hands and Leophyne seemingly vanquished, Tentoawa and Loazenikwe returned to Ishgard to report their success. Handeloup expressed deep gratitude, noting how the bond between Ishgard and Ok' Zundu had grown stronger through their shared struggle. As Tentoawa and Loazenikwe prepared to return to Tural, Tentoawa reflected on the journey, determined to forge a future where his people could thrive without relying on the Cradle's power. With a new path ahead, Tentoawa and Loazenikwe looked forward to building friendships between their village and its neighbors, setting their sights on a brighter tomorrow.[4]
