Lix, or Rikks, is a town in Bartz's world in Final Fantasy V. It is Bartz Klauser's birthplace and is only accessible via black chocobo, or landing the airship on the sole grassy patch in the corner. Bartz's parents, Stella and Dorgann, lie buried in the outskirts of town, surrounded by small patches of flowers.
History[]
After sealing Exdeath, Dorgann Klauser, one of the four Warriors of Dawn, secluded himself on the border town of Lix, staying in Bartz's world to watch over Exdeath's seal.[1] Dorgann moved to the border town of Lix, where he married Stella and had a child with her ten years later,[note 1] named Bartz. Dorgann wished for Bartz to never know about the crystals, believing they were "not his burden to bear".[3]
One day during Bartz's childhood, while out playing hide-and-seek, Bartz hid on a roof until nightfall, and trying to leave, he slipped on the roof and had to hang onto the ledge, alone, during the night. Later, Stella contracted a fatal disease, and succumbed to it, while Bartz was still young.[4] Dorgann and Bartz traveled together, until Dorgann passed away when Bartz was around 17.[note 2] Following his father's wish, Bartz traveled the world as an adventurer, and left for a long time prior to the events of Final Fantasy V.[4][note 3]
During Final Fantasy V, Bartz returned to Lix and reconnected with many villagers, including a girl who appeared to have romantic feelings towards him, and a scholar who was a close friend of Bartz during childhood. Bartz reminsced about his parents while playing a tune at a bard's house, and when staying at the inn, talked to companion Faris Scherwiz about his time growing up in Lix.[4]
When the two worlds were merged as one, Exdeath summoned the Void upon Lix, pulling Bartz's birthplace into the Void and sending him into a blind rage.[5] After Exdeath was defeated, Lix was restored to normal. Bartz visited his parents' graves one last time before leaving for another adventure.[6]
Geography[]
Lix is located in the northern part of the eastern continent. It is surrounded by mountains and is in the midst of a forest, making it hard to reach through normal transportation means.
Lix is a fairly simple forest town having a similar appearance to others. The town has no notable points of interest aside from the Klauser household, occupied by a bard during the events of Final Fantasy V.

Quests[]
A scene of Bartz standing by his parents' grave can be started by spending a night at the inn. A flashback of Bartz's mother's death can be viewed by inspecting the music box in Bartz's old house. Another flashback is triggered by speaking to Bartz's best friend, which explains his fear of heights.
The party can learn the song Alluring Air by visiting the house Bartz used to live in, and talking to the current inhabitant (a bard) after first seeing a flash-back of the night when Stella passed away, triggered by the pink music box by the window.
Musical themes[]
Lix, unlike most towns, has its own unique track, "Home, Sweet Home". Additionally, the track "Music Box" plays when Bartz touches his mother's music box.
Behind the scenes[]
The scholar in Lix who knew Bartz says he is "S-M-R-T smart".[4] This references an episode of The Simpsons, "Homer Goes to College".

Etymology[]
Lix means "of a noble kind; noble, honorable" in Germanic, "defender of men" in Old Greek, and "ornament; brightness" in Hebrew.[7] It may also refer to the Latin where lix means "ashes, lye".[8]
