Livingway [ˈlɪv.ɪŋˌweɪ] is a non-player character in Final Fantasy XIV. She is the overseer of all Loporrits residing in Mare Lamentorum.
History[]
Early life[]
Livingway and the rest of the Loporrits were created after Hydaelyn sundered the world and imprisoned Zodiark in the moon. They were tasked with maintaining Zodiark's prison as well as turning the moon into a home and spacefaring vessel should the Final Days return and force the people of Etheirys to flee. Living way led the Loporrits and carried out their duties with only a pause during the Third Astral Era due to the Allagans raising Dalamud, worried that their activities may be detected.
During the Seventh Astral Era, the Loporrits came into contact with Sharlayan mainly out of a need to maintain a form of contact with Etheirys while Hydaelyn's ability to communicate waned. Loporrits obtain some textbooks detailing mankind's history, which guided the their work. The Loporrits would hibernate between maintenance periods.
Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker[]
Livingway and the Loporrits were awakened from hibernation ahead of schedule due to Zodiark's destruction and Livingway rallied the Loporitts to begin the final preparations to welcome the people of Etheirys. She met the Warrior of Light, Y'shtola Rhul, Thancred Waters, and Urianger Augurelt, and explained the purpose of the moon and the coming calamity. Due to outdated information, she mistook the group for children, and was panicked when she realized the Loporrits had to redo much of their work. She welcomed the Scions to explore Bestways Burrow and learn more about the Loporrits' efforts as well as helping fine-tune them to modern man. To the Loporrits' dismay, the Scions found the efforts off-target, and pressed for time, attempted to force the Scions into staying. Urianger persuaded them to let the Scions go while he stayed to help the Loporrits adjust their work to suit the people's needs.
After hearing Urianger's tales about life on Etheirys and worrying about the lack of contact with their Sharlayan collaborators, Livingway organized a group of Loporrits to visit Etheirys, having become curious about life on there. She met her clientele in person and offered to help with the finishing details of their spaceship, though the Loporrit technology was incompatible with Sharlayan tech. Meanwhile, Livingway and the other Loporrits learned more about the planet and found things worth protecting.
Livingway was present as the Scions delved into the Lifestream. She was saddened to hear Hydaelyn had passed, but was thankful of her belief in mankind and was excited to use the Mothercrystal to fuel the Ragnarok. As the Scions began their final preparations to travel to Ultima Thule, Livingway tasked Sicard to bring the leaders of the world's tribes to Sharlayan to help fuel the ship. The Loporrits were forbidden to create anything with a soul, so they were using the deities summoned by the tribes to convert the Mothercrystal into usable fuel for the ship. They used the original creation magic technique, rather than the Ascian spin-off, which meant there was no risk of being tempered. Livingway and the Scions boarded the Ragnarok to confront the impending apocalypse at its source.
On approach to Ultima Thule, Meteion boarded the ship, intent on snuffing out its inhabitants' life. Thanks to Thancred everyone was spared. Livingway exited the ship with the Scions and began surveying the surroundings. As the Scions proceeded further into Ultima Thule, Livingway stayed behind to monitor the ship's systems and radars. Livingway piloted the ship back to Sharlayan after the Scions defeated the Endsinger, and then returned to Bestways Burrow.
Post-Endwalker[]
Instead of ordering the Loporrits back into hibernation, Livingway had them find a new purpose in life now that their previous one is no longer necessary. She granted Dreamingway his request of building a workshop to make music and helped listless Loporrits find a new purpose and recruited Managingway and Coiningway to help with the business side of things. She privately worried that the trio would struggle to reach out to one particular Loporrit. When the group ran into this trouble, they asked Livingway about that Loporrit's story. Livingway explained regaled that a Loporrit known as Counselingway had worked harder than any other Loporrit to prepare for the people of Etheirys's arrival, only to find their hopes dashed when the goal was changed; and so, the Loporrit fell into a deep depression.
Characteristics[]
Appearance[]
Livingway is a Loporrit with brown fur and green eyes. She wears the standard Loporrit uniform, consisting of a smock and headwrap.
Personality[]
Livingway is the leader of the Loporrits. She is proud of that position, introducing herself as "Hydaelyn's Right Paw". She is dutiful in her work and is excited to please others. She does not cope well with unforeseen circumstances, such as the unanticipated differences between her textbook knowledge of people and reality, and is prone to panic. She undercuts the most important points of her statements with flippant and seemingly dismissive remarks. Livingway grows an appreciation and willingness to protect Etheirys the more she learns about it. She is concerned about the well-being of her fellow Loporrits. Following the prevention of the apocalypse, Livingway decides that the Loporrits must learn to find a new way for themselves, aware the aversion of the Final Days and the moon evacuation plan meant that the work the Loporrits conducted up to this point was for naught. To that end, she was permissive of Dreamingway's efforts to build a Loporrit culture.
