The Lightning Arrows are ammunition for bows in Final Fantasy XII. They make the bow-user deal lightning damage, able to exploit favorable weather conditions and enemy weakness. Bows cannot be equipped without owning some kind of arrows. Owning the Lightning Arrows means the player can use an unlimited amount, and arrows do not need a license to be equipped alongside a bow.
Obtain[]
Original[]
The Lightning Arrows are not sold in shops, but sell for 700 gil. They are found in a treasure in Cerobi Steppe's South Liavell Hills and Feddik River . The player can come here early via a chocobo as soon as they can access the Tchita Uplands.
The Lightning Arrows are also a reward for completing A Chase Through The Woods hunt for the Vorpal Bunny.
Zodiac[]
In the Zodiac versions, the Lightning Arrows are not sold anywhere, but sell for 2500 gil. They are found in a treasure in Trial Mode Stage 52 with the Diamond Armlet equipped, and commonly stolen from the Wendice in Trial Mode Stage 28. The Lightning Arrows set is still the reward for the hunt for the Vorpal Bunny.
Use[]
The Lightning Arrows set adds 2 points to the bow's power and they make the damage the bow deals lightning-elemental, meaning it will do 20% more damage in rainy weather and on water terrain. They deal double damage to enemies weak to lightning. No weather condition diminishes lightning damage. Some enemies also resist lightning damage, meaning the player could be better off with the preceding Parallel Arrows or Bamboo Arrows against these foes. However, against lightning-weak enemies, Lightning Arrows remains a good choice of ammunition for a bow-user. Unlike with the fire-elemental Fiery Arrows, there is no bow that will enhance lightning damage like the Burning Bow does with fire damage.
As rainy weather amplifies lightning damage, the Lightning Arrows can be good in the rainy Giza Plains, Ozmone Plain, Mosphoran Highwaste, Phon Coast, Tchita Uplands, and Cerobi Steppe, as well as in the Garamsythe Waterway for its water terrain. Ice-type enemies are typically weak to lightning damage, and so the arrows could be good in the Paramina Rift as well. Lightning Arrows can be good against the mark Fafnir, where the player may prefer ranged weapons.
The arrows are only useful to procure in the Zodiac versions if the player is using an Archer, albeit the secret Seitengrat can be used without a license.
