Oh, shut up and help me remodel the Lightning (Opera Omnia) page!
A former sergeant of the Guardian Corps that goes by the name of Lightning. In an effort to save her one and only sister, she gives up everything she has to battle against destiny. While her unsociable demeanor once made her seem unapproachable, she realizes that she is not alone during her journey, ultimately opening her heart to others.
Description
Lightning is a playable character in Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia who can be recruited at the end of Chapter 8 of the main storyline.
Characteristics[]
Appearance[]
Lightning wears a primarily white Guardian Corps military uniform, adorned with several belts and buckles and a red cape on her left shoulder.
Her first alternate costume, Knight of Etro, is her attire as a Knight of Etro in Final Fantasy XIII-2. Lightning wears silver and gold armor with a large feathered sash. The Goddess's Grace shield is part of her costume but has no effect on gameplay.
Her second alternate costume, Equilibrium, is her main garb in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. The "Night Lotus" shield is featured on her garb in its original appearance, but is absent both in the artwork and in-game.
Personality[]
Lightning is a strong-willed and self-sufficient fighter. She initially attempts to take on Garland herself, refusing the help of the party. She retains the suspicion of godlike beings she gained as a L'Cie and was quick to join the Returners for the opportunity to find her own answers independent of the gods' instructions. Even after regaining her memories as the Knight of Etro, Lightning dislikes and mistrusts Materia. Lightning is protective of her old friends and slowly forms friendships with similarly-minded people in Mog's party. She is especially protective of Serah. She sometimes has difficulty understanding the personalities from different worlds, such as Selphie, causing her to treat their oddities with vexation and suspicion.
Story[]
Act 1, Ch. 8: Capta Est Tower[]
Lightning joined Edgar's Returners, sharing their skepticism in the explanations given by the gods and Mog. She fights Garland on the way to Capta Est Tower. Though Mog's party encounters her several times as they traverse the volcanic caverns and ascend the tower, she elects to continue her running battle with Garland on her own. Lightning engages Garland in a final battle next to the torsion at the tower's peak. The battle between two summoned champions agitates the torsion and it goes out of control, and Dark Bahamut emerges. After Mog's party helps her defeat it, Lightning begins traveling with them full-time.
Act 1, Ch. 9: Utopia Niveus[]
When Serah appears in Utopia Niveus, Lightning insists on protecting her, even though Serah is there after her own journey and protests that she is capable of fighting herself. Lightning continues to wear herself down until the other warriors join Serah in lecturing her, and she reluctantly agrees to stop trying to cover every attack. Later, Snow helps convince her that she should trust in Serah's abilities rather than continue viewing her as a little sister who needs protecting. When Lenna joins the party, Lightning commiserates with Faris over worrying about reckless sisters, though Serah is irritated at the hypocrisy.
Act 2, Ch. 1: Drawing Chaos[]
In Act 2, Caius attempts to harness the properties of the gods' world to atone for his misdeeds in his own. He attempts to convince his old foes and the Akademeia students to join him in undoing the events of their most painful memories. Although Lightning has no memory of him or Etro, she doesn't accept his intentions. After several encounters with the dark manikins, Lightning recalls her experiences as Etro's Champion through the brilliance they bestow upon her. This cements her refusal to accept Caius, and they defeat him.
Act 2, Ch. 7: Respite's Authenticity[]
The warriors of light challenge Sephiroth, who seized Materia's throne to become a god of the world of respite. They overthrow him and Spiritus appears to aid their cause, having been sheltering Materia all along, although she is incapacitated. Lightning and the other warriors heed Spiritus's instructions and return Materia to her chambers. Lightning had been conspiring against Materia for bringing the warriors to the world of respite against their will, but has no desire to strike at her in her weakened state. She instead asks Materia what happened.
Materia explains that the final straw was her warriors losing faith in her authority. While she rendered the world into existence and constructed its laws, she herself was merely a steward to the crystal and to the wills of the warriors themselves. Materia does not understand why the warriors reject being relocated against their wills, lacking understanding of the respite required for a person's spirit, even as she understands that the human body requires rest. Yet she remains bound to her responsibility and is incapable of leaving her throne. Lightning asks why Materia chose not to resist her fate. Ignis tells Lightning that Materia must have had a good reason, but Materia denies it. She appreciates how the warriors forged new bonds of friendship with each other under her auspices.
After leaving Materia's chambers, Lightning and the other warriors meander through the streets of a destroyed city resembling Insomnia before boarding Mog's airship. During their travels Lightning converses with the Warrior of Light, Noctis, Ignis, Zack, and Locke, the latter pitying Materia and Spiritus, noting that it was wrong of the warriors to turn their anger towards Materia who has has no control over the fate assigned unto her in making the world of respite. Lightning begrudges that Materia is an ally of hers at this time.

- In Chapter 8 of Act 1, Lightning faces Garland, who was her designated antagonist in the story of Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy.
- Lightning pairs with Firion for her FR ability as a callback to their interaction about the rose in Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy.
- She is also Cecil (PLD)'s Force Mode partner. Both were part of a military faction which they came to desert. Their siblings play a major role in their respective source stories, and both also have a connection to Odin.
- It had been Cecil that encouraged Firion to ask for the rose back from Lightning back in Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy as well.
