Limit Burst

Army of One (シーンドライブ, Shīn Doraibu?, lit. Scene Drive) is Lightning's Limit Burst. A damage and debuff-type ability, it is a long attack that deals physical damage to a single enemy, and decreases its DEF for three turns. It consists of either twelve hits (5★) or twenty hits (6-7★).

The damage modifier and how much the enemy's DEF is reduced will depend on Lightning's LB level:

Equipment

Lightning can equip the following weapon types: daggers, swords, greatswords, katanas, bows, spears and guns.

She can equip the following armor types: light shields, hats, helms, clothes, light armor and heavy armor.

She can equip accessories.

She has three exclusive ability materias: Attacker, Defender, and Thunderfall. Exclusive to Final Fantasy XIII units, Attacker and Defender will increase her ATK/MAG and her DEF/SPR by 10%, respectively. In contrast, Thunderfall is exclusive to Lightning: an attack materia, it enables her to deal Lightning magic damage (2.1x) to all enemies, and decrease their resistance to that element by 50% for three turns. All three materias were available for purchase at King Mog's shop during the event The Hanging Edge.

Assessment

As one of the earliest 5★ base rarity units, Lightning used to be a decent unit, but outclassed easily over time. She has multiple abilities that cover multiple elements which makes her quite utilitarian, her main weakness however, are her overall low modifiers and inability to chain properly, as her main ability Crushing Blow, has irregular frames and low hit count. Her enhancements give her a mild damage boost and evasion, but a useful 75% Lightning imperil on Crushing Blow, which is useful but not enough to make her relevant by herself.

At 7★ rarity, Lightning gets a major update, earning massive ATK boosts, and modifier changes on most of her moves. Her new move, Endless Army is a powerful chainer from the Quick Hit family and also tremendously buffs Lightning at the same time, thus making her much more useful, although she is also outclassed rather easily by other 7★ damage units, but nonetheless remains a decent unit.

One of Lightning's major strengths is her innate Dual Wield, being one of the earliest units to have it, which makes her flexible on building. Also due to a free sample being easily supplied to players by completing rookie quests, Lightning is theoretically one of the easiest units to level to 7★, thus greatly increasing her overall usefulness for all players.
