Recovers HP upon moving. Movement cannot be reset for units with this ability.
The Ivalice Chronicles' description
Lifefont, also known as Move-HP Up, is a movement ability in Final Fantasy Tactics, learned by the monk job. It recovers the HP of the user as they move tiles. Lifefont must be learned by expending JP earned for the monk job, at which point it and other jobs can use the support ability. Its MP counterpart is Manafont.
Opponents that have Lifefont include Zalmour Lucianada and Bremondt Freitberg (exclusive to The War of the Lions version).
Obtained[]
Lifefont costs 300 JP to be spent on the monk job. Once the unit has learned it, they must equip it in their movement ability slot.
If a unit that knows Lifefont becomes a crystal, a human unit picking up the crystal may learn Lifefont without spending JP, as long as said unit has unlocked the monk job.
Mechanics[]
With Lifefont equipped, units will gain approximately ⅒ of their maximum HP (rounded up) if they move.
In The Ivalice Chronicles version, with Lifefont equipped, the user cannot reset their movement after moving in that turn.
Lifefont requires the equipped user to move, meaning if a unit is unable to move during that turn, they will not benefit.
Use[]
Lifefont takes up a movement ability slot and heals the user as they move. This can make the unit more durable and reduces their reliance on healing from the rest of the party, or from self-heal abilities such as Chakra. The ability can be combined with Auto-Potion and Regen to provide a strong passive healing to the unit.
Though not as expensive in JP cost as some other abilities, monk abilities such as Chakra, Revive, Counter, or First Strike will likely be prioritized.
A big drawback to Lifefont is that in taking up a movement ability slot, this can prevent the unit from using abilities that can make the unit more mobile Ignore Elevation, Movement +3, or Ignore Terrain. When used with jobs who have innately strong movement—such as dragoon, dancer, or thief—this is less of a concern.
Lifefont can be useful for Ramza Beoulve during certain one-on-one story battles: Goffard Gaffgarion at Lionel Castle during chapter 2, and Wiegraf Folles at Riovanes Castle during chapter 3, to regain health without using up his turn for healing. It can be coupled with the chemist's Auto-Potion to regain health after taking damage.
