"Life and Death" (死闘, Shitō?, lit. Life or Death Struggle), also known as "Fight to the Death" and "Desperate Fight", is a boss theme from Final Fantasy XII, composed and arranged by Hitoshi Sakimoto.

It contains the theme from "Opening Movie (FFXII Theme)".

"Life and Death" plays during boss battles against Vossler, Doctor Cid, and the second battle against Gabranth. It is track 5 on disc 3 of the Final Fantasy XII: Original Soundtrack.

"Life and Death" is incorporated into the final boss theme "Struggle for Freedom".

In the Zodiac versions, "Life and Death" plays during the battle against the five Judge Magisters at Stage 100 of Trial Mode, the most difficult challenge in the game.

"Life and Death (Zodiac Age Version)" is the reorchestrated version available in the HD remaster Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age. It is track 53 on the Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age Original Soundtrack.

It is track 39 on the Death Unto Dawn: Final Fantasy XIV Original Soundtrack.

Final Fantasy XV[]

"Life and Death" appears on the music player. It is the tenth track of the Memories of FFXII album bought from Verinas Mart - Ravatogh for 100 gil.

"Life and Death" is also available as track 165 on the limited edition Blu-ray disc of the Final Fantasy XV: Original Soundtrack.

Dissidia Final Fantasy (2008)[]

The theme can be unlocked in the game, given the title "Fight to the Death", another translation of the Japanese track name. While it represents the third of three tracks from Final Fantasy XII in that game, it is not available in the original soundtrack.

"Life and Death (Arrangement)" is track 9 on disc 2 of the Dissidia Final Fantasy -Arcade- Original Soundtrack and is track 46 on the Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Original Soundtrack.
