Ring affected by a curse from beyond the grave. Makes the wearer undead.

Description

Lich Ring, also known as Relic Ring,[1][2] is a relic in Final Fantasy VI. It makes the wearer undead. This means that healing spells damage the user, absorption effects are reversed, and death effects heal them.

Lich Ring can be bet in the Dragon's Neck Coliseum for a Ward Bangle, which can in turn be bet for a Dragon Horn.

Obtained[]

The temporary ghost party member has the relic equipped by default.

Lich Rings can be found in Jidoor, are dropped by Abaddon, and can be obtained by using Metamorphose on Behemoth King, Daedalus, and Ahriman.

Use[]

Lich Ring is a niche relic, which in most cases is not advisable as it prevents the player from being able to use healing spells to restore themselves. The main beneficial effect of the relic is that death attacks will heal the wearer. As such, against enemies that often use instant death attacks, Lich Ring can be an effective defensive relic.

Etymology[]

The English word Lich is a cognate with the German word Leiche, meaning corpse. Lich Ring in the English version may be named after the Lich from the original Final Fantasy. In fantasy fiction, a lich is a type of undead creature. Often such a creature is the result of a transformation, as a powerful magician or king striving for eternal life uses spells or rituals to bind his intellect to his animated corpse and thereby achieve a form of immortality.
