I am he who feeds on the power of Earth. I will not be disturbed by mortal men. I am the lich... Fiend of the Earth!

Lich

Lich is the Earth Fiend from the original Final Fantasy. He appears at the bottom of the Earth Cave. Unlike the other three fiends, he is undead, with the appearance of a skeleton.

As the earth elemental fiend, he drains the power of the Earth Crystal, making the Earth rot in Melmond. When the Light Warriors arrive at Melmond, they find the Earth rotting and people dying. They find out that a Vampire is behind everything, so they travel to a nearby cave known as the Earth Cave to defeat it. However, when they return to the town, they see that the earth is still decaying. Using the Star Ruby they find in the cave, they travel to the Sage's Cave, where they find that the vampire was only working for a greater force: The Lich. The warriors travel again to the Earth cave, where they find the Earth Orb. After confronting the Lich, the party prevails. The Earth Orb shines again, and the land stops rotting.

Battle

Lich Icon

Lich is a difficult boss, the hardest faced thus far. As an Undead enemy, he is weak to Dia and Fire, so if the party has any of these two spells, use them because physical attacks don't work well. Some of his tactics include using Haste on himself and to use Sleep. Be sure to Heal when the party's weak, and attack between healing. Keep this up, and he shouldn't KO any of your characters.

Second Battle

Even if Lich was defeated, when the Light Warriors travel through time, they have to fight the Lich of the past. Inside the Temple of Fiends, there is a floor known as the "Lich Room", which contains many of the monsters from the Earth Cave. To go to the next floor, one must fight Lich again as a guardian of the stairs. Because of that, the party can defeat the past Lich many times. This time, however, he is harder, has 2800 HP, and knows more moves such as Death, and Flare. Use the same tactics as before; Firaga and Diaga are the ways to go.
