Lich is a boss from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. Upon entering the throne room like area in the temple of Rebena Te Ra, the Lich confronts the caravanners, activating two magical spheres on either side of the room, causing an impermeable barrier to surround it. It then attacks the caravanners, beginning the battle.

Stats[]

Battle[]

The Lich is one of the slower bosses in the game, relying mostly on magic spells for dealing damage and teleporting to escape. Its spells tend to be rather wide range, so the battle has a very hit-and-run mechanic to it.

  • Meteor - Similar to the meteor-like attack which Bombs use, a dark casting circle will appear shortly before the Lich uses this devastating spell. The only sure way to avoid this attack is to flee from the Lich until the spell is fully cast.
  • Chain Lightning - When a blue circle appears, the Lich is preparing a very wide ranged electric attack. This spell will paralyze caravanners without stacked protection against shock damage, meaning that a combination of a Wind aligned chalice, Thunder Badge, and some other Thunder equipment must be used in order to take damage without the status effect.
  • Combustion - A dark ring foretells the Lich's explosive attack. This attack is fast and dangerous, often disrupting the battle's flow for players. Running from one side of the Lich to the other sometimes is far enough away to avoid the damage, so the typical magical enemy strategy can work here as well.

Support Monsters[]

These skeletal enemies act just as almost every support monster do: annoyances and obstacles. They do not offer much of a threat, especially due to the nature of the boss; because the Lich itself focuses on magic attacks, avoiding boss attacks is easier than heavily physical battles. These attacks grant many opportunities to pick off the skeletons without complications.

Strategy[]

The trick of this battle are the two orbs fueling the Lich's protective force field. This entire level has prepared you for this; the two orbs are the same as the numerous magical switches you've had to deactivate throughout the area. Cast the appropriate spell on each sphere or use Holy, and the Lich will be rendered more vulnerable.

Unfortunately, the boss is still an undead being, so on top of lowering the barrier, you must make the Lich corporeal with Holy before attacking it. Unlike the vast majority of bosses, Gravity is effective against the Lich, but quick successions of Holy and physical attacks are probably the quickest and safest way to win the battle. The easiest way to take out skeletons is simply to use Holy on the Lich then cast Firaga to deal damage to all the targets.

In Multiplayer, having someone focus on the orbs and skeletons while the rest hammer the boss with Holy and Fira will make this fight much easier.

Etymology[]

In fantasy fiction, a lich is a type of undead creature. Often such a creature is the result of a transformation, as a powerful magician or king striving for eternal life uses spells or rituals to bind his intellect to his animated corpse and thereby achieve a form of immortality.
