Reveal more detailed target information.
Description
Libra is a technick in Final Fantasy XII that lets the player temporarily see the HP, level, and elemental weaknesses of most targeted enemies. It also makes traps visible, but does not reveal what type they are. It helps the player during explorations.
Libra is purchased from technicks shops. In the original PlayStation 2 version, all player characters who have the License Board can activate it. In the Zodiac versions, it is used by certain jobs.
The player can get a permanent Libra effect with the Bangle accessory. In the Zodiac versions, Ribbons also grant Regen and Libra.
Obtain[]
The license for Libra costs 20 License Points in the original PlayStation 2 version, 25 LP in the Zodiac versions, and it is known by Basch by default in all versions. Libra is sold in Rabanastre's technick shop, and in the Zodiac versions also in Giza Plains, Nalbina Fortress, Barheim Passage, Bhujerba, Dreadnought Leviathan, Dalmasca Westersand (after Ondore's Estate), Dyce, Mosphoran Highwaste (after defeating Judge Bergan), Phon Coast, Archades, Balfonheim (after visiting the Draklor Laboratory), and the Trial Mode Stage 7 treasure (with the Diamond Armlet equipped).
In the Zodiac versions, Libra can be used by the Machinist, Monk, Archer, Shikari, White Mage, and Bushi job classes (the White Mage must acquire the license for the Esper Cúchulainn first, and the Bushi must acquire the license for the Esper Belias), as well as Basch no matter what job he chooses.
Mechanics[]
Libra is a Technick that grants a buff to the user that lets the player see the HP (99,999 HP is the maximum it can show), level, and elemental weaknesses of most targeted enemies while the party member with a Libra is in the active party. Pressing displays enemy information mid-battle.
Libra also makes traps visible, but does not reveal what type they are. Bosses (excluding Firemane and Mimic Queen), Marks (excluding Rogue Tomato and Thextera) and Rare Game (excluding Helvinek and Midgardsormr) are immune to Libra.
The formula for the duration is:
Use[]
Libra is useful for exploration of dungeons and overworld areas. Only one party member in an active party needs it active. The player can make a Self:Libra gambit for someone, or use a Bangle. When the player gets a Ribbon in the Zodiac versions, they can just keep that one equipped for most of the time. Knowing the enemy's HP and elemental affinities is useful in deciding how to tackle them, however, characters with element-weak or element-vulnerable gambits will know the enemy's weakness even without Libra being in effect. Seeing traps on the field lets the player avoid them.
Libra is not needed for boss battles and marks. Some enemies are also immune to Libra, like the Bangaa Pugilist.
Etymology[]
Libra originates from the Latin for "book". This word root is present in multiple Romance languages, and is also found in English "library".
