The Leather Headgear is a light armor headgear in Final Fantasy XII that slightly boosts the wearer's magickal defense and HP. It is the fourth weakest light armor hat in the game and basic equipment.

Obtain[]

Original[]

The Leather Headgear is sold for 500 gil in Rabanastre after Barheim Passage, Dalmasca Westersand after the Leviathan but before getting the Treaty-Blade, Nalbina Fortress, Bhujerba and Dreadnought Leviathan.

It rarely drops from Tiny Mimic and Tiny Bug.

It is made in the bazaar set "Assorted Leathers" by selling two Wolf Pelts (from wolf-type enemies, e.g. Wolf), one Tanned Hide (from various enemies, e.g. Slaven), and two Dark Stones (from various undead enemies, e.g. Zombie).

Zodiac[]

The Leather Headgear is sold for 500 gil in Rabanastre after fighting Ba'Gamnan in Lhusu Mines, Bhujerba, and Dreadnought Leviathan. It is found in a treasure in Lhusu Mines' Transitway 1 (75% chance to appear, 30% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is the Leather Headgear without the Diamond Armlet equipped) and Trial Mode Stage 11 with the Diamond Armlet equipped.

It still rarely drops from Tiny Mimic and Tiny Bug, and is made in the bazaar in the "Assorted Leathers" set with the same items as before.

Use[]

The Leather Headgear is the fourth weakest light armor hat, giving small amount of magick resist and 40 HP. It is useful to equip over any inferior equipment the party may have started with. In the original version, the player can buy it from Rabanastre as soon as they leave the Barheim Passage. However, the more expensive heavy armor helm, Sallet, may be preferable if the player can stretch their funds to it, as the HP boost from light armor is not usually worth prioritizing over heavy armor.

In the Zodiac versions, Machinist, Monk, Archer, and Shikari can equip the Leather Headgear, and so it is mainly useful to buy if the player has chosen these License Boards as their starter jobs. However, Balthier and Fran start with the license for it and can wear it regardless of job. It is available to buy later than in the original version.

If the player lets the lights go out in the Barheim Passage, Zombies begin to spawn, which may drop Dark Stones. The player can also get Wolf Pelts from the hyenas in the Giza Plains, and the wolves in the Dalmasca Estersand and Westersand, and a Tanned Hide from the Slaven in the Giza Plains. Selling them lets the player make the Leather Assortments set in the bazaar, that includes the Leather Headgear, which is better value for money than buying the goods separately. However, it is not worth grinding for the items, as the leather gear is so easily surpassed by better gear.

It is also possible to get the superior Horned Hat as a lucky drop from the Surianders in the Barheim Passage.
